Lebanon, Illinois, is a quiet college town with a history that runs deeper—and darker—than it appears. The historic Mermaid House may still be home to its eccentric former owner, a sea captain whose ghost is said to linger in the halls. Just down the road, McKendree University has faced more than its share of tragedy, including the death of a student electrocuted in the original bell tower. Some believe his spirit still lingers in Bothwell Chapel, unwilling—or unable—to move on.
