Speaker 1

Day twelve of the Twilight Zone podcast adven Calendar, and it is the day when we say goodbye to Emmy, because it's going to be she's going to be passing the baton onto Zach, who's going to take it home after this.

So, Emmy, have you enjoyed the questions this year?

Speaker 2

I have loved it, Honestly.

I every single time I read a question, I was like, this is so cool, this is so creative.

I'm glad that people, you know, you can tell that people love it and they've really given a lot of thought to it.

So thank you, honestly for everybody.

So yeah, So I'm going to go for two weeks and I'm going to decorate the after Hours club for Christmas.

So there's going to be a lot of alcohol, guys, so feel free to join us.

Speaker 1

Good stuff.

So fittingly, the question that we have is about endings.

Our old friend Al Shardsma says, we've compared the season opening episodes but not the season ending episodes.

Which season end is your favorite?

So just so we know what we're dealing with, a list of them are A World of his Own, The Obsolete Man, The Changing of the God, the Bard and the Bewitching Pool.

So Emmy, which is your favorite out of The Obsolete Man and.

Speaker 3

The Changing That's exactly what it was.

It's got to be between these two, right.

I Mean, it's funny because i'd never really again, I had never really clocked that we've had a couple of stinkers for the end of the season, like they really ran out of steam for some of these So.

Speaker 1

Yes, I mean season four, my god.

Speaker 2

And five.

I mean, I don't hate it as much as many people hate it, but you know, it's not a peak Twilight is one episode.

But yeah, you're you're absolute right.

It's got to come down between The Absolute Man and Changing of the Guard.

I just hope we've got different answers for it.

Honestly, I'm going to go with Changing the Guard because you know, I've said before that as much The Obsolete Man is undeniably an incredible and such a such an effective episode, it's not really one of my favorites.

Again it's beautiful or Meredith is phenomenal in it.

Is it one I'm probably going to sit down and watch again.

Probably not.

I mean, I like the ideas, I like the concept behind it, it just doesn't fill me with the same joy that Changing of the Guard does, and I had in the spirit of Christmas in the after Hours club I had, I had to go with Change of the Garden.

It's only one of two episodes that makes me cry every single time I watch it, and I'm not a cry so this is this is quite significant.

So yes, for me, not just because it's Christmas, but just because it is a really really good episode.

I had to go with Changing of the Guard.

Speaker 1

Okay, good, so you know, I like the Obsolete Man just fine, but it just doesn't get me in the fields the same way the Changing of the God does.

The thing for me is especially as I get older.

You know, everyone's life is different and you're only a couple of situations away from maybe being on your own or choosing a path in life where you end up as quite a solitary figure.

And you know, in the Changing of the God, he did because he became a teacher, and you know, maybe he just never found a person who he wanted to share his life with and he ended up on his own.

This has been a thing that I find quite fascinating because you know, I suppose just to peek behind the cat and a little bit I am someone who is who is very happy in their own company, and I can find things quite joyful on my own.

I don't need other people to to necessarily be able to feel that.

Obviously I feel it with other people as well.

But you know, here's a man who's led a very full life, as he says at the end, but he's ended up quite a solitary figure.

But the fact that by the end of it he realizes that he can still be joyful that his life was worth living.

I think it's become a bit of an often repeated phrase for me now that a life lived in a different way need not be any less special.

You know, there's this view that, well, you've got to have a partner, you've got to have kids, and you've got to do this, you've got to do that, and that's the way it should go, and for most people it probably will.

But for some people it doesn't.

But that doesn't mean there's any less value in their lives, and it doesn't mean that they can't find their joy in whatever they think it might be.

And for him it was sometimes listening to, you know, a classical music music concert on the radio, or whatever it might be, and I just think it's such a beautiful sentiment and road Sailing really nailed it in this episode, So for me, it's the changing of the guard as well.

Speaker 2

Oh that's lovely.

No, I think I'm so glad that we've I know that you've this isn't the end for you, obviously you're going to continue with that other guy.

But at the same time, I'm glad that we're finishing ers with this because it is it's lovely, it's got a beautiful message, and yeah, I want to go away and watch it now if you look Christmasy.

Speaker 1

Well, emmy, thank you for joining me on this journey halfway through the advent calendar, and thank you for another great year of podcasting over in the After Hours Club on the Twilight Zone podcast after Show.

We probably haven't done as many as I would have hoped because I haven't done as many episodes as I would have hoped this year that there's been a lot of things going on behind the scenes that have made it quite difficult to put the podcast out sometimes, but it's always been a joy to come back and do it with you.

So thank you so much, and Merry Christmas.

Speaker 2

Oh, thank you, Tom and Merry Christmas to you and to everybody, and remember its quality over quantity.

So although maybe not doing as many, the ones we're doing are still absolutely amazing, so thank you so much.

Speaker 1

Okay, so next time it is a changing of the God and Zach Moore will be picking up the Twilight Zone Advent calendar and I'll see you there
