Kṛttikā: The Sharp One

Episode Transcript

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Timeline Astrology Podcast.

This is Gary and this is the Maps of Consciousness series that I'm doing with Kishori, who joins me again to talk about the different lunar mansions of the Zodiac.

We've already spoken about Ashwini and Barney, the 1st 2 within Sidereal Aries, and now we're moving on to the third Critica.

So as we begin this discussion, I explain a little bit about what Critica means, its ruler, the deity that rules it, and some of the symbolism of the signs.

So without further ado, here's Kishori Critica is where we get the word critical.

Yeah, yeah, from the sounds correct.

And it's symbol is a blade or knife.

This is really interesting because it's if you could think about this in order now you have this kind of horse bolting, maybe pre story thing that giving birth to something and then the cutting the umbilical cord.

The ruler of Kritika is the God of fire agony.

So this is kind of fire ritual going on here.

This is, and again, in, in ancient Vedic times, this would have been the first one.

It's fiery, it's cutting.

Whereas The Sweeney is, you know, impulsive and, and maybe even reckless, but it's impulsive and it's out the gate before you've even thought about it.

Then you have Barney, which is very disciplined usually.

Shape.

Shape and form and then critica, which is mixed in a way.

It's kind of seen as both as soft.

It's got soft and we'll talk about that in a minute, right?

But also very sharp because it's literally like a blade and it's bridging both Aries and Taurus.

So this is where we have to bring in some astronomy.

So basically a lunar mansion is only 13° in 20 minutes, but at sunshine is 30°.

So if we put in Aries and then we have critica at the very end of Aries, there's only one pada or step which is 3 degrees 20 minutes in Aries and all the other 3 padders are in Taurus, which means most of it's in Taurus, 10° in Taurus.

So basically Critica is like soft and sharp because of that, because it has the sharpness of Aries and this cutting sort of incisive, very impulsive and initiatory sort of sign.

And then it has the softness of Taurus where it's more grounded in Taurus.

All of the lunar mansions are in a sign completely or they are spanning 2 signs.

And in this case we have the first one with that spans 2 signs, the Critica.

And it's, it's again, like I said, Ruby agony is the fire God.

It's about fire rituals and it is also about insight though and illumination and clarity and removing things because all of the symbolism of fire and blades and knives is about removing imperfections and impurities.

And so it has a lot of that kind of energy about it to reach a state of more clarity and its associated with the sun.

So when the cycles it, we start with with keto and then we have Venus and then we come to the Sun.

And usually for most people entering a sun period in their life, there's a sense of clarity because it's the sun, you know, it's, it's yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Our light.

So there's definitely a lot to be said about any of that.

But just maybe if we focus in on the the Aries portion, when we Add all three of them up, now that tells more about what areas is than just talking about Aries on its own.

That Aries is impulsive.

It can be reckless.

It's out of the gate before you even thought about it.

But then it can get very disciplined and very productive in making something happen when it gets focused in Barony.

But then it's also cutting in critica and it's about cutting out the imperfections.

It's like if you imagine that you were to produce something, to write something.

If there's an initial impulse to do something and it may be just you scribble down words on a page, then you form them and then you might edit somethings out that don't work.

That's literally the process of Aries, Yeah, the birthing process, the Ashwini Bernie critical process of making something that's like a book, if you're writing a book, because anything that you're producing, creating, giving birth to.

But then there's the cutting of the court.

And that's literally the symbolism is all connected, encoded in Aries and these three lunar mansions.

Ohh yes it's just beautiful.

Loving the the shapes and the patterns.

What, what are your thoughts when you think about critica, when you think about that kind of critical or cutting or that kind of incisive lunar mansion, An agony, the God of fire, of, you know, purification?

Well, I'm just remembering I'm not going to go through all now, but moments of dissolving everything in fire when I was right at the beginning of setting the stables and and other it.

It fits with bits of my life that I'm not going to start telling that.

It's just almost mind blowing actually what it fits with the beginnings of.

I don't remember what time it was, must have been in the 80s.

But.

Amazing that it's so clear.

But it's amazing how I've just told a story in a very generic way, but because you obviously have your unique story, still the same common thread.

Absolutely.

And of course, it's all astrologically to do with where these planets are placed in our birth charts and, and, and what way do they express themselves?

Like my Venus is different to your Venus, your process of creation is very different to mine, right?

But you might say that everybody knows this process.

And, and it will obviously be rearranging the furniture and I, I, I just don't want to say, I still feel going to the heart makes you unlimited.

And the thought of getting to a door and thinking because I have that configuration, I can't do it this way.

It's just that, that, that, that the tourist softness, they are opening up to all sorts of possibilities.

Yet we do need a shape of some kind.

You couldn't, you'd be like a splurge if you didn't have a skin or something, you know, some shape.

And from there, you can begin to craft more, more and more.

I I do feel there's a, a freedom, a new, a new kind of freedom in the mind.

That's one of the things I see emerging, and we were talking at the beginning about opening to something completely different.

You absolutely need a starting pack here in the Earth world.

You need, you need your golfing handicap to start with.

You need something, you go.

You go to begin somewhere.

Could be somewhere, yeah.

But then as we evolve and we play a bit more and seeing what mind can do when it's rooted in the heart, we don't really know yet the power and I my sense is that that that cutting free.

I don't know what the other the other 24 hour we shall see as we go along, but it's a very good starting place.

I love the way you approach it where this sense of like, you know, we have to start somewhere, but we need to have a very like to think of it as skin instead of like this being boxed in and, and and and not.

I I like the way you say that about when you approach a closed door, thinking that because I have this, you know I cannot do that.

Hello, stores are meant to be opened and we are have got the capacity if we allow first of all.

Ohh yeah the door is shut now.

What's the shut door for?

To be opened, obviously, and the mind is so fabulous.

When the mind is rooted in the heart, it becomes like a laser illumined.

That's what I feel is, is on the point of emerging for many, many.

Not for, not for all.

Because I think we'll divide into the ones who realise that they're not just a leaf in the wind, but the power is coming.

The power to shape shift.

That word shape shifting, I get a lot that that those first 3 lunar mentions are beautiful With the shaping.

You start off with your some kind of shape you need because we're here in the the game.

So we obviously need something and you gotta open your box of tricks and see what's there and what you can do with it.

And then and then the giving of her, the lowering of the shaping, and then the cutting.

3 So nobody story there.

Can't wait to see what's 2420.

Five, yes, and and it'll be interesting to see as well as we go journey around the story and what we might do as well.

Each episode is return to the last one.

So I'll talk about Critica because that is already gone into Taurus.

So we've finished Taurus next time and talk about the following two, Rohini and Richer Shirsha.

I love the names.

I know the words, I know them all.

I mean, I've really they sound, they feel good in my mouth, they feel a taste of shape.

And you can see as well how they explain the signs Aries, Taurus, more than just.

That's what I'm saying, that's there's a relationship, some kind of relationship between the the signs and and the the lunar mentions.

And that would be good if we gradually unravel that or get clearer.

It's like learning a different language.

But it's a language that you already know.

You're just remembering it.

You're just and you already, you're already telling it in your own language.

Of course, I'm just telling it in the astrology myths.

Yes, right.

And let's start growing this now.

Rohini's the next one.

It's the growth star.

It's about growing something and literally Rohini means like an engorging.

Yes.

So we will continue this conversation in our next podcast all about Rohini.

We had to leave it there for today, but I look forward to having a discussion with Kishori in our next in the series, this Maps of Consciousness.
