[SPEAKER_01]: From the MLB draft, all the way to the show, the Toolshed podcast has you covered with rankings, player analysis, and in-depth discussion.

[SPEAKER_01]: And now, here's your host, Eric Cross.

[SPEAKER_02]: And welcome into another episode of the Toolshed Podcast, brought to you by Rotobar.

[SPEAKER_02]: This is episode 415.

[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for joining me.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm your host, Eric Cross.

[SPEAKER_02]: You can find me on Twitter at Eric Cross MLB and the show is at Toolshed Pod.

[SPEAKER_02]: I have a great guest in the Toolshed with me this episode.

[SPEAKER_02]: He is a prospect writer at the Dynasty Dugout and host of the Prospect Promotion and [SPEAKER_02]: Brewers fan, great guy, Mr.

Zach Beck at Upper Underscore Beck on Twitter.

[SPEAKER_00]: Zach has a good one, but I am doing great.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Brewers clenched the best record in Major League Baseball.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to be at the Arizona Fall League two weeks from when this show's published.

[SPEAKER_00]: So everything's looking up for me.

[SPEAKER_00]: How are you?

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm doing good, man.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, seasons record this Sunday night.

[SPEAKER_02]: So season just wrapped up the afternoon, red my red socks snuck in the last couple of days.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's good.

[SPEAKER_02]: Got a nice first round while a card matchup with the New York Yankees, which will be always fun.

[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't remember the last time we had a post season matchup with the Yankees, but it's been a bit.

[SPEAKER_02]: So thank you for, I think it was probably maybe 2018 or 2018, the last time we faced them.

[SPEAKER_02]: in the postseason.

[SPEAKER_02]: So that'll be nice, nice postseason match up here and your brewer's man.

[SPEAKER_02]: Best record in the whole baseball.

[SPEAKER_02]: How you feel?

[SPEAKER_00]: And at the very least isn't barely scraped by to get there.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're really bad for the last month of the season.

[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, I have high hopes getting the first round by is huge.

[SPEAKER_00]: I am also very much looking forward to Yankee's Red Sox and Guardians Tigers.

[SPEAKER_00]: We've got some good rivalries in the first round.

[SPEAKER_00]: So, [SPEAKER_00]: That'll be great.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think like I'm usually bummed when the regular season ends, especially when the minor league regular season ends at each sort of level, you know, the lower levels go earlier and then double a and then triple a that's always kind of sad but October baseball nothing beats it.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, absolutely.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, postseason baseball even when my, you know, my refs have been in it for a few years now, but always watching every game I can and that with my team back in it as a little bit extra excitement.

[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, you mentioned them get some some divisional matchups here, I mean, Seattle's hot Yankees are hot, you know, Cubs and Padre series.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think we'll be a fun one, you know, the younger, since that he read sticking in, they send the big bad Dodgers in the first round.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he got we had a lot of a lot of fun matchups.

[SPEAKER_02]: There should be a fun postseason and yeah, we got the AFL starts officially.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think on The six of the seventh of October right around there.

[SPEAKER_02]: So we're about a week and a half or so away from AFL starting up.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's going to be a lot of fun.

[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be out in Arizona for we know it, but we're going to finish.

[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to recap in the minor league season here, doing our national league prospects of the year.

[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll go to each of the 15 national organizations.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'll do a separate episode for the American League later in the week.

[SPEAKER_02]: And we'll each give our prospect of the year for each a nationally organization.

[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to overlap on some that is fine.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think we've overlooked them roughly half of them give or take, but a lot of fun names here.

[SPEAKER_02]: So we will start with Arizona.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think so when we both matched up on.

[SPEAKER_02]: Now, what a good season's in the years on a system.

[SPEAKER_02]: But I think the best was Ryan Walshmit's outfielder in 134 games between high A.

[SPEAKER_02]: in double A, slash 289, 419, 473, I think that was the top 5 OBP and the minor leagues as well for guys with 500 plus played appearances.

[SPEAKER_02]: 27 doubles, 18 home runs, 29 steals, 16% walkerate and a 17.6% strikeout rates.

[SPEAKER_02]: One of those guys that doesn't have any, like, wow, you know, tools, nothing that really stands out.

[SPEAKER_02]: But really, really solid across the board.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, [SPEAKER_02]: getting on base, you know, that approach is really, really good.

[SPEAKER_02]: So Ryan Walshmeets for me and who you got here.

[SPEAKER_00]: I also had Ryan Walshmeets.

[SPEAKER_00]: I loved Walshmeets in the 2024 draft when the Bruce took Braille on pain over him at 17.

[SPEAKER_00]: My jaw hit the floor.

[SPEAKER_00]: He had really excellent underlying data.

[SPEAKER_00]: at Kentucky.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then this year, you know, you were talking about, he doesn't have a standout.

[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't have a seven tool anywhere.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I think a lot of the stuff he has going on on the offensive side of the ball are five and sixes.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a five-hit tool.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's 60 raw power.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think he is a plus runner.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of really good stuff going on here.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I was happy to see all of that sort of play out on the field.

[SPEAKER_00]: His career minor league WRC plus is 143 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's a pretty good number right there and, you know, he, a him and Caldwell, like really, really pressed at the start of the year, Caldwell kind of, you know, teed it off a little bit, but obviously he's pretty young.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, while just kept it going, and really had this impressive season from, you know, early April, all the way through late September.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, he's really setting all around player, you know, a couple of other guys of, I'm no here.

[SPEAKER_02]: I did all these tweets and my runners up for Tommy Troy, nice bounce [SPEAKER_02]: And Daniel Egan, a picture of had a really solid season that I don't think she hadn't talked about enough, but yeah, Ryan Walshman was the winner here for Arizona.

[SPEAKER_02]: Where do you have them roughly in your rankings here back?

[SPEAKER_02]: Do you have them top 50?

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm I'm sure you do at this point, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I had them top 50 in my update in August.

[SPEAKER_00]: I can imagine that going top 40 into the offseason, the fun part about the regular season ending is this is when I start writing my offseason book.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll be able to really dig in.

[SPEAKER_00]: and start sourcing, you know, some underlying data where it's not, uh, not publicly available.

[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see a little bit more of what Walshmit had going on under the hood.

[SPEAKER_00]: What I think is really interesting for him is he's a plus athlete, and he's not the biggest guy in the world.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's listed at 6205, but it's plus bat speed, which is something that I'm starting to look at more now that we have that on the public side for MLB.

[SPEAKER_00]: And when you get anecdotally, anecdotally, maybe from a blast sensor, or if they played in a stat cast enabled league, [SPEAKER_00]: You can stack that up against where they would be in Major League Baseball, so really looking forward to seeing that when I get some under the hood date on him.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, absolutely.

[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, I love offseason content, almost more than I love regular season content.

[SPEAKER_02]: Probably do.

[SPEAKER_02]: Like it more, everything's kind of stationary.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's nothing's changing.

[SPEAKER_02]: You can really dig into things and see things that you didn't really have time to see during the season.

[SPEAKER_02]: I remember when we were out in Arizona last year, it would be times when you were writing your book and I was writing and when I was writing, I forget what it was at the time, but we were both sitting there late at night, after going to games all day and getting our stuff done.

[SPEAKER_02]: So I got to love that offseason content.

[SPEAKER_00]: that Airbnb, that Airbnb was the content machine for like two weeks.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, absolutely.

[SPEAKER_02]: With me, you, Kleg and Scully there.

[SPEAKER_02]: That was, that was a lot of fun.

[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of content getting pumped out there.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's that week stretch for sure.

[SPEAKER_02]: And we'll back out there as soon as soon enough.

[SPEAKER_02]: But moving on from Arizona going over to the Atlanta Braves.

[SPEAKER_02]: Who did you have for Atlanta back?

[SPEAKER_00]: I went with Cam Camanity, former NL MVP, Camanity's nephew, he had an excellent year.

[SPEAKER_00]: So he was the 24th overall pick in 2024.

[SPEAKER_00]: He'd just pitched three innings after the draft.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I was really excited to see what we would see from him after that Lanna used a lot of draft capital on him.

[SPEAKER_00]: He ended up throwing 70 innings split between the complex and single A, the majority of that coming at single A.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he was really, really good.

[SPEAKER_00]: He finished with a 309 ERA got roughed up a little bit at the complex but pitched the rest of the way in single A to a 208 ERA.

[SPEAKER_00]: He also carried a 21% strikeout minus walk rate, 30.5% on the strikeout rate, 9.5% on the walk rate.

[SPEAKER_00]: I really love his fastball.

[SPEAKER_00]: This isn't a guy that's necessarily [SPEAKER_00]: physically imposing, but the fastball from the left side is really great.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's been 90s.

[SPEAKER_00]: It has great shape.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then he has two other breaking balls in total, the slider and curve ball.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then the off-speed pitch in the change up.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be really interested to see if Atlanta scraps one of the breaking balls.

[SPEAKER_00]: They tend to like to have guys.

[SPEAKER_00]: Just focus on one of them.

[SPEAKER_00]: Of the two, I probably like the curve ball more at present.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I think the slider probably has more ceiling.

[SPEAKER_00]: So that could [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I also went with Cam Cam Kennedy.

[SPEAKER_02]: It was a very picture heavy for Lance, you know, I was considering Luke Sonard.

[SPEAKER_02]: And J.R.

[SPEAKER_02]: Richie as well, but not really any hitters.

[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't a banner year offensively in the Middle East for the Atlanta Braves.

[SPEAKER_02]: And none of those guys kind of factored him.

[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I'd be super impressed with what Kim came in a day.

[SPEAKER_02]: As you mentioned, you know, four outings at the complex, didn't really do well in there.

[SPEAKER_02]: But then he had 13 outings in low A as an 18 year old and just absolutely dominated, you know, 280 array.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, 274 FIP and a 32% strikeout rate.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, what I love what came in it is being so young.

[SPEAKER_02]: He has a good advanced feel for everything, really.

[SPEAKER_02]: Compared to the most of his peers, his age, you know, good feel for spin, good feel for the change that you mentioned, the good fastball there too.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, obviously, as a long way to go, but he has all the ability blocks of being a really good pitcher and maybe being one of the tier one, tier two, pitching prospects in the game in the next year or two.

[SPEAKER_02]: Definitely like Kim and Eddie and went with him as well.

[SPEAKER_02]: Next up here we're going to the Chicago Cub so a lot of good minor league seasons both offensively and on the pitching side.

[SPEAKER_02]: I went with Jonathan long who I was really surprised didn't get the call.

[SPEAKER_02]: to the cubs this season, but you know, had a really good year in the minor leagues.

[SPEAKER_02]: 140 games played, 607 played appearances, slash 305, 404, 479, 23 doubles, 20 home runs, 13% walkerate, and a 19.1 [SPEAKER_02]: and strike out rate, you know, context skills are solid, the approach, as you can see from, you know, strike out rate, walk rate pretty good as well, and sneaky, good power, too, is one of the higher heart hit rates in AAA this season.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, I think it could be, you know, I've got to hit you for a good average, good OBP, can pop you at 20, 25 homerums a year.

[SPEAKER_02]: Just wait as you fit long term for the cubs.

[SPEAKER_02]: He kind of shifted from third base over to predominantly first base this season, but they got Michael Bush at first base right now.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, it's not sure what the long term outlook is for for long, but it had a really, really good season.

[SPEAKER_02]: And I want one of my favorite prospects in all the base, but I think you still a bit underrated.

[SPEAKER_02]: All right, for the cubs here, who did you have back?

[SPEAKER_00]: I really like the Jonathan Longpick.

[SPEAKER_00]: I was between him and the guy I actually went with who is Jackson Wiggins, had just a phenomenal season on the mound.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's a big strong, righty at six with six, 225 pounds.

[SPEAKER_00]: He only threw 78 innings.

[SPEAKER_00]: He had some shoulder stuff going on in the middle of this season and came back in shorter stints towards the end.

[SPEAKER_00]: But while he was healthy, he threw [SPEAKER_00]: 78 innings of 2.19 ERA ball.

[SPEAKER_00]: He struck out a ton of batters over the course of the entire season.

[SPEAKER_00]: He struck out 31% to just an 11.5% walk rate, which is a little bit higher than I would like.

[SPEAKER_00]: But finished with a 19 and a half strikeout minus walk rate.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think [SPEAKER_00]: The headline on Jackson Wiggins is it's a double plus fastball.

[SPEAKER_00]: He sits in the upper 90s with it.

[SPEAKER_00]: It has great shape.

[SPEAKER_00]: He also throws a pretty good slider and a changeup that I think is average right now, but could be above average when he starts throwing it a little bit more.

[SPEAKER_00]: He was a real sleeper, I think, in the 2023 draft.

[SPEAKER_00]: He was in the second compensation round at 68 overall.

[SPEAKER_00]: And was one of those guys that, you know, coming out of Arkansas, if he can start, and if he can be consistently in the zone, was going to be a great find.

[SPEAKER_00]: And that is what has happened for the club so far.

[SPEAKER_00]: Much to my sugar in.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely.

[SPEAKER_02]: Wiggins was one of my runners up along with Owen Casey.

[SPEAKER_02]: And I see I definitely considered him for my pick as well.

[SPEAKER_02]: Do you have Wiggins in your top 100 right now back?

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I had him as a top 50 guy in August.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think he'll stay there.

[SPEAKER_00]: Just the fact that he was able to get back on the mound and throw a little bit.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think was encouraging.

[SPEAKER_00]: I am still a little bit turned off by some shoulder stuff in many ways that can be worse than an elbow, which at least you know what you're dealing with then.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I am sort of a stuffist when it comes to pitching prospects.

[SPEAKER_00]: I just hope that they can throw enough strikes.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's where we're at with wagons.

[SPEAKER_00]: Plus, I mean, I'm a sucker for a really good fastball.

[SPEAKER_00]: It just makes everything out.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, absolutely.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, as am I.

Yeah, so Wiggins for Beck and I had Jonathan long [SPEAKER_02]: We will go over to the Cincinnati Reds who had a lot of decent candidates here.

[SPEAKER_00]: Who did you end up going with back?

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, the Reds had a couple of standouts this year.

[SPEAKER_00]: I ended up going with Alfredo Duno, which I think this was a huge year for him.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's a teenage catching prospect.

[SPEAKER_00]: He'll be 20 calm January.

[SPEAKER_00]: Spent the full year in single A played 113 games.

[SPEAKER_00]: The reason I think it was a big year was he had missed some time in 2023 and 2024 with some [SPEAKER_00]: But played a full compliment of games this year, hit 18 home runs over 113 games, just under 500 played appearances, walked more than he struck out, carried a 164 WRC plus he is, you know, I think the sort of prospect that.

[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't fly under the radar.

[SPEAKER_00]: He is very conspicuous when he's on a diamond.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's where your eyes navigate to really explosive bat.

[SPEAKER_00]: I would say like 65 raw power, age adjusted raw power, what I'm worried about is just the bat to ball.

[SPEAKER_00]: So he made contact at a 71.1% clip.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have the inzone numbers in front of me, but [SPEAKER_00]: Uh, is a little bit below average with the bat to ball, but is one of those prospects where if they figure it out and they he sticks behind the plate, uh, he he has more than enough bat to be a top, um, dynasty catcher.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think he's already there.

[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think his season kind of flew under the radar a little bit.

[SPEAKER_02]: Just I think people kind of focus on radio Rodriguez.

[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, rightfully so he had a phenomenal year, but yeah, I think do know is I have him as a top five catching prospect right now, along with, you know, obviously Pesayo and then a percenio Rodriguez by a steros and then do knows that that's a pretty comfortable top tier for me.

[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, you know, phenomenal approach, I think the code that goes to be good enough is that given the the massive power, I think it'll be fine and obviously the future home ballpark also helps a little bit there.

[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, I almost went with with do know as well, very, very high on him.

[SPEAKER_02]: But I ended up going with South Stewart.

[SPEAKER_02]: It was still technically a project eligible here because since I didn't really use him every day down the stretch, so he keeps his prospect status here.

[SPEAKER_02]: Headache into 2026, and obviously a phenomenal year had five home runs up with the reds, and the minor leagues 309, 383, 524, slash line, and 118 games, 494 plate appearances.

[SPEAKER_02]: 34 doubles, 20 home runs, even 17 steals, like the sneaky, you know, obviously not that speed guy, but it was running a little bit there.

[SPEAKER_02]: So that's nice to see only caught three times nine point three percent walk rate and a 15 and a half percent strike out rates and we saw, you know, that power that I think got under sold coming into the year.

[SPEAKER_02]: was really good all year in the upper minors and continued.

[SPEAKER_02]: And I think you had a hard hit right in your 60% barrel rate of like 17% with the red, so you got to was able to put that power on full display.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think if you give them a full time gig, you could be a 25 plus home or bats for the reds with a decent average as well.

[SPEAKER_02]: Context still did dip a little bit this year from previous years, but still pretty solid doesn't strike out a lot.

[SPEAKER_02]: So I think this is a [SPEAKER_02]: first base, namely a little bit of third, you know, maybe a little bit of second, not really sure where that's going to be, maybe it's a combination of those three, but really like the bat of South Stewart, and I think he's still a bit underrated.

[SPEAKER_02]: Though I think next year might, you know, make that not happen anymore.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's really going to come and do his own next year with a big first full season.

[SPEAKER_02]: So Alfredo Duno for Beck and South Stewart for me, we will go over to the Colorado Rockies who didn't really have a lot of great candidates that as compared to the the reds here.

[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm going with Jared Thomas got up to double A this year but really really struggled in double A, like most of his damage.

[SPEAKER_02]: was done in high A, where he slashed 330, 427, 495, Levin home runs, 22 steals, AA, he was still running, had 11 steals and 45 games.

[SPEAKER_02]: We're only three home runs, 245, 347, 374 slash line in the strikeout rate.

[SPEAKER_02]: balloon from 23% to 34.

[SPEAKER_02]: And a half percent.

[SPEAKER_02]: Still walk in a good clip though, about right about 13% at both levels.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, so I have some good here and these decent raw power, you know, can run a little bit maybe as an average runner long term, but that ballooning straight out rates.

[SPEAKER_02]: And the contact rate dipped, you know, a good 7.8% from how you to double as well.

[SPEAKER_02]: So that's definitely concerning, want to see how he fears next year.

[SPEAKER_02]: But I still think he's a decent prospect.

[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, the end of the season kind of did, you know, concern me a little bit.

[SPEAKER_02]: But Jared Thomas has my pick.

[SPEAKER_02]: Who did you go with back?

[SPEAKER_00]: just a quick thought on Jared Thomas before I give mine.

[SPEAKER_00]: I usually when I'm watching Rocky's prospects, the transition that I'm paying attention to is the one that he made from Spokane to Hartford.

[SPEAKER_00]: That is sort of where the air comes flying out of the balloon.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a different hitting environment.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so I thought maybe that was what was going on.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was just you got used to a pretty friendly home park in Spokane and then struggled to adjust to Hartford.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's a part-factor thing that was going on there.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's what really scares me about his second half is the contact rate, really fell off a cliff.

[SPEAKER_00]: The strikeout rate went way up.

[SPEAKER_00]: It felt like he was maybe a little, he was getting overpowered a little bit in AA.

[SPEAKER_00]: So that I think was a little bit concerning to me.

[SPEAKER_00]: Although I do like Jared Thomas.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's a nifty little prospect.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was one of those that [SPEAKER_00]: You know, the Rockies love to draft famous guys.

[SPEAKER_00]: They picked the most famous guy left on the board in the second round last year.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it was working out while he was in Spokane.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I went with Christian Argil's.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think I'm saying that correctly.

[SPEAKER_00]: He is an 18 year old.

[SPEAKER_00]: He just did his second stint in the Dominican Summer League.

[SPEAKER_00]: Six foot, 177 pounds.

[SPEAKER_00]: He has a preposterous line in the DSL.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it's 52 games.

[SPEAKER_00]: He slashed 422, 528, 652.

[SPEAKER_00]: for a 198 WRC plus he at five home runs over that time.

[SPEAKER_00]: He stole six bases.

[SPEAKER_00]: He walked more than he struck out.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is one of those things where he's a little bit old for the level and the Dominican summary league.

[SPEAKER_00]: The under the hood stuff isn't as strong as the surface level numbers would have you believe.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't really know what to make of him.

[SPEAKER_00]: He won't be in consideration for my top 100 come the offseason barring some underlying data that I'm not privy to right now coming out that is incredibly strong.

[SPEAKER_00]: This was also sort of buoyed by a 463 babbit.

[SPEAKER_00]: I am looking forward to getting my hands on some more DSL video.

[SPEAKER_00]: That is one of the great things about the offseason as I can finally sort through.

[SPEAKER_00]: The teams that have their Dominican Summer League games on YouTube or wherever.

[SPEAKER_00]: Our GALs had a great, great year, not my favorite prospect to come out of this Dominican summer league crop.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think he led the miners in early the DSL and WRC plus the chair.

[SPEAKER_02]: It was nearly 200 WRC plus.

[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, it's interesting to see you see these tips of guys every single year, you know, how many of them can stick moving forward when they come to the state side to complex fall?

[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see, but you definitely a phenomenal year from our GALs for sure.

[SPEAKER_02]: All right, let's go over to the big, bad, less angelist Dodgers you had, you know, endless supply of options here, a lot of fun prospects, especially on the opposite side for the Dodgers, so who did you end up settling on here for the Dodgers back?

[SPEAKER_00]: I did not go with Hoseway to Paula, I did not go with Zire Hope, I did not go with Eduardo Contaro.

[SPEAKER_00]: I went with Mike Sarota, who was one of the best hitters in minor league baseball this year.

[SPEAKER_00]: He finished with a 190 WRC plus split between single and high A.

Unfortunately, his season was cut pretty short with a knee injury in July, so he only played 59 games.

[SPEAKER_00]: But in that time, he carried a 17.8 percent walk rate to just a 21.9 percent strikeout rate.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's last 33, 452, 16.

[SPEAKER_00]: He hit 13 home runs in just 59 games.

[SPEAKER_00]: So something like a 35 home run pace over a 162 is a pretty good athlete.

[SPEAKER_00]: I really liked him when he was at Northeastern.

[SPEAKER_00]: I was puzzled when the reds gave him away in the off season.

[SPEAKER_00]: in the Gavin Lux deal.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he really made him pay for it.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was a full season OPS that finished just under 1100.

[SPEAKER_00]: He was doing a great job getting the ball in the air.

[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't pulling it as often as I would like just a 34.2% pull rate.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I think what we saw here was a little bit of over performance from the underlying data, but still a very, very good prospect that I put in my, [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Sarota had a phenomenal year.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think he, if he had, you know, not been, you know, had seasons cut short, but, you know, the injury that you mentioned, I think he could have been like the consensus, you know, dude for the Dodgers.

[SPEAKER_02]: And that's given all the other good seasons they had, but, yeah, I have Sarota right now at 36 overall, right in a class, right in a Ryan Walshman, him and Walter are actually back to back.

[SPEAKER_02]: right now, my ranking.

[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, I'm very high on sort as well.

[SPEAKER_02]: Definitely considered him for mine, but I ended up, I went with contiro.

[SPEAKER_02]: It was tough.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, there was, again, several guys and Shadow Rock, the Ryan Ward in a little bit older, but he had a phenomenal season.

[SPEAKER_02]: 27 years old, but he, he led the my legs and home runs and I was a home runs and our BI or home runs and runs score two of those.

[SPEAKER_02]: So Shadow to Ryan Ward for a great season.

[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I went with them, Ward, I'll contiro.

[SPEAKER_02]: between low-A, high-A, 293, 415, 508, bunch of extra bass heads, 22 doubles, seven triples, 19 bombs, 47 steals was caught 13 times.

[SPEAKER_02]: 16.3% walk rates and a 22.7% strike out rates.

[SPEAKER_02]: Now, really fantasy-friendly profile here, plenty of speed.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think you could be a 30 plus steel guy long-term, [SPEAKER_02]: And I've quite it for definitely could be like a 15 plus home run guy long term and context skills are pretty solid as well there, you know, overall in the upper 70s close to 80% this year and even even got better when he went up from from low a to high a even he did a little bit of a wall in high a on the surface that he picked it up into the season, but the underlying metrics for police solid there as well.

[SPEAKER_02]: for Beck, and I can hope had a good year.

[SPEAKER_02]: They Paul had a good year.

[SPEAKER_02]: Me and Morales had a good year.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's the Dodgers for you.

[SPEAKER_02]: They spent a lot of money, but they also developed and draft, you know, signing internationally and developed very well on top of that.

[SPEAKER_02]: All right, so we're going over to the Miami Marlins now.

[SPEAKER_02]: This one was a real toss up between two arms for me.

[SPEAKER_02]: One of which I have is the best arm still in the minor leagues in Thomas White.

[SPEAKER_02]: But I went with Robbie Snelling because he pitched a little bit more this year.

[SPEAKER_02]: Both are equally as impressive, you know, Snelling had that really big 2023 season that really vaulted him to being one of the top pitching projects and baseball for a lot of people.

[SPEAKER_02]: Myself included.

[SPEAKER_02]: Last year, I'm kind of the air got taken out of the sales a little bit.

[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't really have the greatest of years, but this year bounced back in a huge way.

[SPEAKER_02]: Pin double A and triple A.

[SPEAKER_02]: A as a 21 year old 25 starts 136 earnings pitched 251 ERA 111 whip 7.1% walk rate in a 30.3% strike rate 222 batting average against, you know, I thought he might get the call late in the season you know down the stretch from Miami.

[SPEAKER_02]: That didn't happen, but he probably is up very early next year whether that's opening day or shortly thereafter.

[SPEAKER_02]: But it's telling really really bouncing back this year and having, you know, putting himself back into, I think he's definitely in that top 10 pitching prospect discussion once again in him and Thomas White both have phenomenal years again white so you know, one of the top pitch projects on baseball as well.

[SPEAKER_02]: you know, really good breaking ball, you know, curve ball was missing a lot of bats this year.

[SPEAKER_02]: Solid change it as well.

[SPEAKER_02]: Fastball doesn't blow you away, but he commands it very well.

[SPEAKER_02]: Now, you think he's above average command control guy too.

[SPEAKER_02]: So I think he's like Taylor made for just being a really good number three starter, which is still a very good outcome.

[SPEAKER_02]: And I think you see that started to happen with the Marlins next year, very early.

[SPEAKER_02]: So Robbie's snelling for me, how about you back?

[SPEAKER_00]: I juggled the same to you guys you're just talking about snowing and Thomas White.

[SPEAKER_00]: Ultimately, I went with Thomas White.

[SPEAKER_00]: He had a ridiculous season.

[SPEAKER_00]: He just threw a little bit less than snowing.

[SPEAKER_00]: He went 89 and 2-thirds innings across three levels, high AA and AAA this year.

[SPEAKER_00]: So the tune of a 2-3-1-ERA ended 2-2-7-5.

[SPEAKER_00]: So the ERA estimators sort of agree with what happened on the field.

[SPEAKER_00]: The really big thing, he struck out 38.6% of batters.

[SPEAKER_00]: That number was 42.5 in AAA, which is preposterous.

[SPEAKER_00]: Granted, that was only nine innings.

[SPEAKER_00]: The thing I want to see from Thomas White is just a little bit more in the zone.

[SPEAKER_00]: He did carry a walk rate of 13.6%.

[SPEAKER_00]: So what would have otherwise been an incredible strikeout minus walk rate.

[SPEAKER_00]: It finished at 25%.

[SPEAKER_00]: He has a huge fastball from the left side, a plus breaking ball, the slider there.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then the change up Miami in pastures has been known to develop sort of that patented Miami change up.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think you can start flashing that more.

[SPEAKER_00]: I really want to see that become a bigger part of it, but he might not need it as long as you're stirring strikes with the festival and the slider.

[SPEAKER_00]: I prefer noblemire in that draft of the two arms that they took and I feel pretty silly about it.

[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, you're not alone.

[SPEAKER_02]: I did as well.

[SPEAKER_02]: I was a huge huge noblemire guy.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm first here at Kleg and I both talked him up very, very highly.

[SPEAKER_02]: On this podcast and yeah, he is he can't find the speed of not finding his own yeah, he had a huge Issues, so that's with find the zone, but yeah Thomas white I mean that yeah that walker rate really kept him from being up there with you know Like the tongs and the the tollies and the the savages of the world In terms of the top tier of came on this walker rate and then minor leagues kind of pushed him down a few Few percentage points below them, but yeah, really phenomenal year from [SPEAKER_02]: Thomas White, now he's got a future frontline stuff if you can keep that walking right in check.

[SPEAKER_02]: We shall see.

[SPEAKER_02]: All right, over to Beck's Milwaukee Brewers.

[SPEAKER_02]: This is this was the tough one.

[SPEAKER_02]: I was really in between three guys.

[SPEAKER_02]: So who did you end up going in with here for the Brewers back?

[SPEAKER_00]: I thought about going with Tyson Harden on the pitching side, but ultimately I went with Marco Dingis.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is Dingis.

[SPEAKER_00]: I've heard a couple of people refer to him as Marco Dingis, which is hysterical, but it's not the way that he pronounces his name.

[SPEAKER_00]: He was full-time DH, essentially at Florida State, before he was drafted and the Bruce took a shot on the bat, hoping that they could craft him into a serviceable catcher.

[SPEAKER_00]: They did just that.

[SPEAKER_00]: So the reason I went with Marco is it's a pretty fascinating development story that they were able to get, you know, his, his defensive acumen to a place where he might actually catch, however, the bat really shined as well.

[SPEAKER_00]: Over 77 games split between singley and high A, he slashed 300, even 416, 514, with 13 [SPEAKER_00]: That was a 161.WRC plus.

[SPEAKER_00]: He also was not a huge guy.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's five foot 11, 190, but has premium premium bat speed.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you listen to any of the brewer's player development staff talk about what it is that makes Marco Dinges special.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's his ability to whip that thing through the zone.

[SPEAKER_00]: And everything else under the hood, I mean the contact rate is maybe a little bit scary, but if you're looking at a guy that over a 162 pace could feasibly hit 30 home runs.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying he will, [SPEAKER_00]: That's a pretty good fantasy asset.

[SPEAKER_00]: He will be in the AFL as well, so he's one of my sort of AFL picks to click.

[SPEAKER_00]: A guy that I think is pretty underlooked right now, but when the only thing to focus on in prospect land is what's happening in Phoenix, he could be one that really shines assuming he gets enough playing time out there.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's definitely one that I'm really excited about seeing because I never get a chance to see any Milwaukee prospect outside of the AFL because I don't think any of their affiliates are within like 1500 to 2000 miles of me, but yeah, didn't just definitely one of the projects I'm looking forward to seeing out there, strong exert him.

[SPEAKER_02]: He was one of my runners up.

[SPEAKER_02]: I end up going with Hazard's mod A.

[SPEAKER_02]: obviously the the big day and the crown jewel of this system.

[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, on paper, you didn't have a lot of home runs or any six arm runs this year, but they'd have 28 double six triples as well.

[SPEAKER_02]: 47 steals was caught 13 times, 285, 379, 413 slash long.

[SPEAKER_02]: We're getting up to double A as an 18 year old.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's he played three different places this year as an 18 year old.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's pretty impressive.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, while showing maturity well beyond these years, good walk rate nearly 13% got the K rate and check at 20.6% there.

[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't really, I mean, he had a little bit of issue with the strike at rate, about as in five games at WAA and not really worried.

[SPEAKER_02]: about that, it was under 18% in high A and 20 and a% in low A.

So, you know, I said I'm not having, you know, a ton of home runs, you know, context skills were pretty solid there.

[SPEAKER_02]: Not a lot of swing and miss in the game and that raw power.

[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, obviously, you didn't really show up in games too, too much, but the raw power is definitely there and it's definitely very, very exciting.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, I think next year, I'm assuming he starts back in AA next year.

[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe we even get some triple A from him.

[SPEAKER_02]: later in the season by I think next year you really can see that that raw power come to fruition more consistently in games though I don't think he's a steel 47 bags again but you know who knows maybe he will but it's probably not but I think you might see a little bit less deals but more home runs there's definitely plenty of raw power there so [SPEAKER_02]: I think it's a be him or like once Griffin and mechanical graduate, I think the degrees and mod day are like the two front runners for the new number one, oh, prospect next year.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I could see that.

[SPEAKER_00]: I saw some people, you know, people I'm talking to, you know, in the game, people on social media, some folks a little bit disappointed with what he did specifically in Carolina, which I thought was strange.

[SPEAKER_00]: She only opes like 750 there, but he's also an 18 year old switch hitting short stop and the Carolina League was tough this year.

[SPEAKER_00]: That translated to a 121 WRC plus.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it sort of reminds me of the year that Jackson [SPEAKER_00]: when you do league and age adjusted surface level performance, it's actually very, very strong.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we had the opportunity to talk about Matae a few times on my show because the premise is we cover the guys that are getting promoted.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so I've said that a few times there, I do prefer Matae by a relatively significant margin to Pena.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought this year was really, really encouraging from him.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely.

[SPEAKER_02]: I've always been team-mod A as well.

[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing good's paying you.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's a phenomenal talent as well, but yeah, I would definitely was on team-mod A and he's a top-fly prospect overall for me right now.

[SPEAKER_02]: So we find to see what he does next year.

[SPEAKER_02]: All right, let's go over to who's next in the list here all the New York Mets.

[SPEAKER_02]: This one was tough for me because as you know, and we both very, very big Carson Benj guys and I did not go with him unfortunately, but you kind of had to go with Jonah Tong here.

[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously up with the Mets and the season, but had one of the best seasons among any pitching prospect in my only baseball this year.

[SPEAKER_02]: 22 starts, 113 in 2 3rds innings between AA and AAA, 143 ERA, 092, whip 168, whip 10.5% walk rate, 40.5% strike rate, only a 148 batting average against as well.

[SPEAKER_02]: This guy I think I mentioned it before on this podcast that I saw him last year when he got the AA and I liked what I saw.

[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't think he'd turn into this, obviously, but I definitely did like what I saw.

[SPEAKER_02]: I definitely thought there was some breakout potential this year, but didn't really trust myself or whatever or to use that and get him any dynasty league last year's last off season.

[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm kind of kicking myself about that.

[SPEAKER_02]: But [SPEAKER_02]: phenomenal year from Jonah Tongg.

[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you've seen the comparisons in terms of the delivery to, you know, a Timwind succumb with how they finish especially.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, it kind of a little bit undersides as well, not the not the biggest guy in the world, but it has the really, really good breaking ball can ratchet the fastball.

[SPEAKER_02]: into the mid to upper 90s.

[SPEAKER_02]: So really exciting prospect here and one that I think, you know, maybe, you know, the walk rate keeps the the whip a little higher along term.

[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see he's always going to be a little bit of a higher end of the walk rate range, but nothing, you know, that I 13, 14 percent.

[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing like to terribly concerning, but he could dismiss bats with the best of let me show that this year.

[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, so I think, you know, between him, the clean and even, you know, throw Brennan's sprout in there, the Metz got some really exciting young arms here for the future.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, Jonah Tom was my pick.

[SPEAKER_02]: Who'd you go with back?

[SPEAKER_00]: I also went with Jonah Tom.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was, I mean, it was an unbelievable year.

[SPEAKER_00]: The strikeout rate was bananas.

[SPEAKER_00]: You can quibble with the walk rate.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think what was really special about Jonah Tom season wasn't really anything that happened on the field necessarily, but the development of his fastball.

[SPEAKER_00]: Imagine a world where Jonah Tong is sitting 96 and he was sitting 95.7 in AAA and 95.2 in Major League Baseball this year.

[SPEAKER_00]: The other big change that happened I assume in a pitching lab is he changed his change up grip.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's now throwing a Vulcan change.

[SPEAKER_00]: and it is really good.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think that is what has elevated him entirely is that you can't sit fastball.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's he's tone back the usage a little bit.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's still about 57% of his mix.

[SPEAKER_00]: And between the fastball, change up and curveball, which also looks like an impossible pitch from that release point.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's, I mean, it's a really good arsenal.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's still figuring out how to miss bats at the major league level, but I'm not taking sort of the tiny little sample that he had in the majors as indicative of who he's going to be long term.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Sam here.

[SPEAKER_02]: Definitely a very talented arm.

[SPEAKER_02]: 22 years old Jonah Tong.

[SPEAKER_02]: So both of us going with Jonah Tong.

[SPEAKER_02]: So now we move on to.

[SPEAKER_02]: the E, or is next up Philadelphia Phillies here, so it's sticking right in the nationally east, who Jeff for the Phillies here, back.

[SPEAKER_00]: I went chalk, I went with Aiden Miller.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think there were a couple of other good options, Justin Crawford also had a pretty good year.

[SPEAKER_00]: I chose Aiden Miller largely because I don't know what to do with this guy.

[SPEAKER_00]: At 18, he had like 50 or 55 run times.

[SPEAKER_00]: And now as a 21 year old, he is clocking like 70 run times home to first, which is very strange.

[SPEAKER_00]: She sold 59 bases in 116 games.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that's what we're going to see at the major league level.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm pretty confused by it.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not the strongest stance in the world.

[SPEAKER_00]: Over the course of the year, he slash 264 392 433.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was a 138 WRC plus he hit 14 home runs to go at those 59 stolen bases.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think I expected him to be a big time power hitter.

[SPEAKER_00]: He was one of the more decorated preps that I've ever covered.

[SPEAKER_00]: He was on to US national teams or U 18 USA baseball teams [SPEAKER_00]: The power hasn't necessarily shown up in games the way that I expected, although he is pretty sturdy six foot one two hundred five pounds, so it could always come around yet.

[SPEAKER_00]: But this is not necessarily the profile that I expected from Aden Miller when he was drafted.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you hit it really much on the head because I have had a hard time with Aden Miller as well.

[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I went through behind him.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was early part of last year.

[SPEAKER_02]: And then this year I dropped them down probably too far and admittedly so earlier in the season when he was struggling a little bit and I've sent pushed him back up into my top 50 highs in the 40s right now for me, but yeah, it's like, you know, where does the the power wind up long term is a more like a 15 homer guy is he a 20 plus homer guy because if he can get 20 plus, you know, with all that speed, you know, good approach is well solid contact skills, so [SPEAKER_02]: All the ingredients are there to be, you know, a pretty impactful offensive player and a pretty good fantasy asset as well, just matter if you know how much power does he get to in games was where because, okay, I can triple a Yet a good hard hit right in barrel right in triple a 45% and 10% respectively, but only 85 point eight average EVs, so kind of a little bit of mixed back there, but [SPEAKER_02]: You get definitely moved him way too low bumped him back up and he's he's my pick as well.

[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if I said that already, but he's my pick as well just a Crawford and a Runez car when they run us up.

[SPEAKER_02]: eight a miller definitely deservedly so forty-time runs fifty nine steels you know good walk the strike out right as well so definitely deserving of being the prospect of the year forty-filled off your fillies and next up Pittsburgh pirates they have any good prospects there and Pittsburgh back is there somebody oh yeah that corner Griffin [SPEAKER_02]: fellow who just had a, I don't even have the words to describe how good of a year corner of and had, but I'll just give you the numbers, 122 games, 560 play appearances between low-A, high-A, and double-A as a 19-year-old.

[SPEAKER_02]: 33, 415, 527 slash, 23 doubles, 21 home runs, 65 steals, 8.9% walkerate, 21.7% k-rate, shout out to Everfloor and Tino, Ezreal and Valdez, both at phenomenal years.

[SPEAKER_02]: at the plate as well hunter barco good year on the mound, but yeah, it's pretty much a nope right here to go kind of great.

[SPEAKER_02]: But it was my number one prospect right now.

[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, most people is number one prospect.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think some, I think some of them are going to go, but kind of great for him, just a phenomenal talent.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the power speed, obviously, was loaded when he was drafted, but the questions were around the context skills.

[SPEAKER_02]: And he kind of entered a lot of those questions.

[SPEAKER_02]: Contact grades were going up throughout the season.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the approach was getting better and you know, it was walking a little bit more a king a little bit less, so definitely made all the adjustments that I think me and everyone was looking to see while still having a phenomenal here power wise and on the base path.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, uh, future fantasy monster in the making here kind of reference, so pretty easy pick for [SPEAKER_02]: the Pittsburgh prospect of the year.

[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm assuming you went with kind of Griffin as well back.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, if we were picking one prospect across all all of baseball, it would have been kind of Griffin.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I did just do a quick, um, fan graphs minor league leaders search going back to 2010.

[SPEAKER_00]: Here are some names that had 20 65 seasons.

[SPEAKER_00]: Mike Trout, Moogie Betz, George Springer, [SPEAKER_00]: That is pretty good company for that specific stat line in a single season.

[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of Griffin, you know, if we're talking about guys that are like 55s across the board elsewhere, kind of Griffin has multiple 70 grade tools in total.

[SPEAKER_00]: He stole over 70 bases his senior year before being drafted.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think some of the concern was just the bat to ball.

[SPEAKER_00]: He kind of got killed on the showcase circuit with the contact rate.

[SPEAKER_00]: Hasn't really been a huge issue this year.

[SPEAKER_00]: He struck out just 21.7% of the time.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it is defensible to have Kevin McGonagall as the number one overall prospect.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think those two are in a tier.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you are forcing me to choose just for the ceiling alone, I will go with Connor Griffin.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, same here.

[SPEAKER_02]: For me, it's, I have Griffin 1 McGonagal 2.

[SPEAKER_02]: They aren't a tier by themselves.

[SPEAKER_02]: And then it drops down.

[SPEAKER_02]: If you still have Chase Burns, I do.

[SPEAKER_02]: He's in that next tier.

[SPEAKER_02]: Madae, the reason that tier as well, gives you whether or not those guys walk on it.

[SPEAKER_02]: So I think pretty clear top 2 and top tier for me, but yeah, kind of Griffin just phenomenal year, won the best.

[SPEAKER_02]: Mine of Lake season, you'll probably ever see.

[SPEAKER_02]: So definitely easy pick there.

[SPEAKER_02]: Next up, the San Diego Padres, which for me became a just a thing of who's still left in the system, to pick you as you know, Asia-Prelor, who, I don't know if Asia-Prelor plays fantasy baseball, probably you probably can't give him this job position, but he would be one of those guys that's like in your DM's every night trying to make trades, he absolutely loves.

[SPEAKER_02]: wheeling and dealing and I made some a lot of new moves again this year, so I'm not a lot of big names from this system left, but who would you end up going with for the pod raise here back now I'm just thinking that AJ Preller would be Jordan Rosenblum.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I had to 100% agree with that.

[SPEAKER_00]: I went a pretty fun route.

[SPEAKER_00]: I went with Garrett Hawkins who pitched entirely in relief this year.

[SPEAKER_00]: He had a, when underwent Tommy John surgery in 2023 and came back to pitch in 2025.

[SPEAKER_00]: Before the injury, he was a starter.

[SPEAKER_00]: He had made 25 starts between 2022 and 2023.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now working in relief and, you know, if there's one thing the Padres do that isn't pushing really young prospects up the minor league ladder, maybe quicker than they should be, it is turning out bullpen demons and Garrett Hawkins had an incredible year out of the bullpen.

[SPEAKER_00]: struck out 35% of the batters he faced, walk just 10.1% that is a 25% strikeout minus walk rate.

[SPEAKER_00]: So matching some of the guys that we've already talked about, it's, you know, the arsenal's fastball slider change up.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it could potentially be sort of a three-pitch mix that works pretty well as a starter.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he has huge stuff unlike some of the other guys that San Diego has turned out.

[SPEAKER_00]: I have Jeremiah's strata on the mind.

[SPEAKER_00]: But an interesting guy that, you know, maybe you wouldn't otherwise talk about if not for a podcast format like this.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and he had a really good season.

[SPEAKER_02]: You mentioned, they just turned out those, those were good relievers.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's like the three things that I think of what I think of the Pilgrins outside of the trades is turning out relievers, pushing, maybe pushing prospects a little more aggressively than the most organizations.

[SPEAKER_02]: And then drafting guys with cool first aim to start with K.

And they got cash, may feel, cruise, schoolcraft, Kale Fountain, it's just like, they love those K names.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think those all have been a lot lost two drafts, I think.

[SPEAKER_02]: So they like those key names as well, but yeah, I went with with cash may feel again It was kind of hard to pick up a few even just the runners up were pretty hard He's I was like all right.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that guy.

[SPEAKER_02]: I don't he's gone.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no that guy.

[SPEAKER_02]: He's gone.

[SPEAKER_02]: So Was not really a ton of great options for San Diego, but I like cash may feel a good bit here It's been the entire season in low a 19 years old 19 star 16 and two thirds innings [SPEAKER_02]: 10.9% walk rate 34% K rate 203 batting average against really good 3 pitch mix fastball in the mid 90s good slider plenty of break on it you know good feel for the change as well and even on that walk rate was a little bit high you know he's really considered one of the you know more polished arms for his age so that's not really much of a concern for me moving forward and again this is his [SPEAKER_02]: And I think he's going to be, you know, if he's still with San Diego in the next, you know, two years or so, which is a big F, I think he could be a pretty darn good starter at the Major League level, you know, big, six, four, six, five, lefty, really strong frame, some projection left on it, so I won't be surprised if he adds in their tick or two to that fast ball, which would be really exciting, but, yeah, cash may field, I was my pick here for the San Diego Padre's.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'll go to the other Sam team, the Sam Francisco Giants, who had a few decent options here, and I'm sure everyone will be thinking, oh, Bryce Eldridge, but...

[SPEAKER_02]: He was one of my runners up along with the Keener Martinez, who had good year in the pitching side, but I won't let Bo Davids in, really solid a year from start to finish for Bo Davids in between high A in double A, 144 games, 522 plate appearances, 281, 376, 468 slash, 16 doubles, 18 homeruns, 19 steels, really, you know, another one of those guys where [SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't have any huge loud tools, but it's a solid power speed when I don't think it'll be a huge runner.

[SPEAKER_02]: He's not a fast guy.

[SPEAKER_02]: He's probably, you know, fringe averaged to average runner long term, I think.

[SPEAKER_02]: But.

[SPEAKER_02]: He's always shown the willingness to run, so I think he could be a 15 mid-upper teen steel guy.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's 25 homer pop in here.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's a plus power guy, goodx of loss of these.

[SPEAKER_02]: And the field of hit, I think has been kind of the thing that held him back a little bit in the past, but I think he's a better pure hitter than I think all people give him credit for.

[SPEAKER_02]: doesn't have a phenomenal contact rates by any means, but I think there will be serviceable enough and that 70-74% range and given the power, so I think it'll be fine there.

[SPEAKER_02]: So Bo Davidson is my pick, who did you go with here?

[SPEAKER_00]: I also went with Bo Davidson on the contact rate.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's a little aggressive.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like a 48% overall swing rate.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm hoping that coming 2026 he cuts that back a little bit and the contact rate will likely improve.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm assuming most of that swing rate will come out of his chase rate, which would be great.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't want to wish cast that.

[SPEAKER_00]: I want to evaluate him as he is right now.

[SPEAKER_00]: I was very high on Bo Davidson coming into the 2024 AFL.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then he was just fine, which [SPEAKER_00]: you know it's short diatribe here but sometimes I feel like seeing players in person takes away from my ability to evaluate because he did nothing while I was in the AFL and I sort of like you know I I cooled off on him he had a really great 2024 as well.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was a 327-437-605 slash line over 63 games.

[SPEAKER_00]: He had 11 home runs, he stole seven bases in that time.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he sort of just repeated that sort of caliber of season, not quite a 170-WRC plus, but was doing it at high A and AA, so you would expect some regression there.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's a really good athlete.

[SPEAKER_00]: He actually visually reminds me of, [SPEAKER_00]: Doug Martin, muscle hamster, but just like a little bit bigger.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, Doug, that's a great pull right there.

[SPEAKER_02]: I forgot about Doug Martin, and that nick day one of my favorite nickdames ever.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so, you know, maybe Bo Davidson is like muscle durable or something, but, uh...

[SPEAKER_00]: Just a little bit bigger.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a big fan.

[SPEAKER_00]: I do worry a little bit about how that power is going to play in San Francisco assuming he debuts with the team, not the friendliest home park.

[SPEAKER_00]: We just had William Thomas the first player to hit 30 home runs in a year since Barry bonds did it about 20 years ago.

[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see we'll see about that.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think Davidson is a nifty little prospect.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not expecting him to be a league winner or anything like that.

[SPEAKER_02]: No, yeah, definitely the same.

[SPEAKER_02]: I have as like a back end, top 100 guy.

[SPEAKER_02]: I like him.

[SPEAKER_02]: I don't love bodavism, but I think there's a solid blend of tools there where you could be a decent fantasy guy if given the chance to start regularly.

[SPEAKER_02]: We shall see.

[SPEAKER_02]: We got two more teams here going to the St.

[SPEAKER_02]: Louis Cardinals who had a few good really good options here.

[SPEAKER_02]: Who did you end up going with here for the Cardinals back?

[SPEAKER_00]: Ultimately, I went with Rayneal Rodriguez, the pulled flyball king.

[SPEAKER_00]: He had an awesome year between Single and Hi-A, just for games in Hi-A, but 60 at Single and then he did sneak in 20 games in the complex where he went on a home run barrage.

[SPEAKER_00]: He, I called him the pulled flyball king, he gets the ball in the air a lot and he pulls the ball in the air a lot and that is where a lot of this power comes from and that's not to give his raw power any sort of you know short drift.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's above average raw power.

[SPEAKER_00]: He is just [SPEAKER_00]: uh...

he's doing the e-soc greatest thing where he is maximizing every ball in the air uh...

i think he has a chance to stick behind the dish uh...

he's you know not an elite defender by any means but i could see him being average it just sorted depends on how his timeline works out with how many catchers the cardinals have sort of kicking around triple a and uh...

young catchers on the major league roster [SPEAKER_00]: I'm a big fan.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think this is the one where I was the most nervous to make a pick because there are plenty of other good candidates, so curious who you went with for the Cardinals.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I thought long and hard about Ranyl Rodriguez.

[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, St.

[SPEAKER_02]: Louis, you mentioned like, they always seem to have like several just decent, decent or better catching prospects in the system.

[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, they've had over the last few years, you know, Leonardo Bernal, Jimmy Crooks, you know, obviously Ivan Herrera was kind of moving off the plate now, and now they have Rodriguez.

[SPEAKER_02]: So they definitely don't have to crank out those catching prospects for sure.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and he had a phenomenal year.

[SPEAKER_02]: I have him top 40 overall now, [SPEAKER_02]: higher from what I've seen.

[SPEAKER_02]: So definitely a lot of hype around Rodriguez.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it was tough.

[SPEAKER_02]: I was really a toss up between Rodriguez, JJ Weatherhold.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think I was ahead of phenomenal year all round.

[SPEAKER_02]: But I end up going with Joshua Bias, who just had, you know, he was a guy that I was really excited about when he got drafted.

[SPEAKER_02]: It was at 340 years ago.

[SPEAKER_02]: at this point obviously had the lose rob had a lot of upside but really never came to fruition until this year you know you can't really I don't think he fell off the map in terms of you know being a prospect and then losing all value but he was pretty far down there and then for one pretty significant reason [SPEAKER_02]: 2022, 36% K-8, 2023, 34% K-8 and 2024, 35% K-8.

[SPEAKER_02]: So I was starting to think, you know, the entered this year.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, probably never got to happen in four bias, but give him a credit, because he absolutely turned things around.

[SPEAKER_02]: Only a 20.6% straight out right this year was 21.4 in high A, 20.2 in AA, you know, [SPEAKER_02]: And had, you know, a good year at the plate, too, not just the approach, you know, with obviously huge, huge, encouraging thing there at 20 home runs, which really 60 of those came in double a in seven to nine games, only four in 38 high games, but definitely obviously a lot of power with bias.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's always been was calling card and he was just running wild this year.

[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he had 29 steals last year.

[SPEAKER_02]: 30 and 20, 23, so definitely has shown the willingness to run even though he's not a burner by any means, but okay, I solid run enough runner 54 steals this year.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's just really in then a 287, 384, 500 slash line.

[SPEAKER_02]: So I just kept seeing that 54 steals back in the face.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, all right, tiebreaker.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, all three of these guys were deserving all three are very exciting.

[SPEAKER_02]: By end up going with Joshua Bias here for the Cardinals and definitely he's an easy my type of 100 now After having him.

[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know where he was to start the season, but it definitely wasn't anywhere Even remotely close to my type of 100.

[SPEAKER_02]: So really fun bounce back season for Joshua Bias All right one more team here.

[SPEAKER_02]: We finished off with the Washington Nationals This one was tough not a lot of guys stood out You had some short season guys that did really well [SPEAKER_02]: I ended up going with Harley and Susana right hander, you know, big right hander, really, you know, landslind type of right hander, it's really big solid frame 14 games for 56 and a third innings.

[SPEAKER_02]: He's been limited over the years.

[SPEAKER_02]: He says some injuries pop up here and there.

[SPEAKER_02]: But 351 ERA 131 web 2.70 fifth 13.9 is a walkerate 38.9% carry and a 195 batting average against I mean he's one of the you know most exciting pitching prospects and baseball I mean if you're just talking about arm talents alone [SPEAKER_02]: He's maybe tier one in terms of just elite arm talent.

[SPEAKER_02]: Now, the fast ball that could touch triple digits with this insane amount of movement on it, you've got two really good breaking balls.

[SPEAKER_02]: It could, you know, has decent change up as well.

[SPEAKER_02]: So if you ever figures out just the strike throwing issue that he's always going to had, he could be one of the, I think one of the best pictures in all baseball.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's the opposite we're talking about here.

[SPEAKER_02]: With Susanna, we'll see that happens if not.

[SPEAKER_02]: late inning relievers in the game not anywhere's near going that route yet but definitely something back in my mind but yeah really exciting arm you know nearly thirty nine percent care at this year just phenomenal stuff from Susana it's hopefully I get to see him you know later maybe if he's back in the blade next year I think at the same this year and double an unfortunately but uh fun arm high strikeout right let's see if he can put it all together next year but who did [SPEAKER_00]: I went with another Dominican summer leaguer.

[SPEAKER_00]: I went with Markone Hermann, who was an 18-year-old getting his first taste of the DSL 510 170 pounds, had an excellent year.

[SPEAKER_00]: 53 games, he hit eight homeruns, he stole 33 bases.

[SPEAKER_00]: He walked more than he struck out.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was a 20.2% walk rate to a 19.7% strikeout rate.

[SPEAKER_00]: The slash line was 283-479-513, so slugging over 500 in the DSL is sort of an accomplishment.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was a 230 ISO.

[SPEAKER_00]: Mostly wanted to cover him one because it was an awesome year two because my filter was 16, it's pitched to be considered as the prospect of the year for any organization and Harlan Susana just barely didn't get there.

[SPEAKER_00]: Also written quite a bit about Susana over the years, [SPEAKER_00]: Hermann is interesting because I think especially in the middle of the season people were pushing him pretty high based on that surface performance and some of the underlying data that I've had the opportunity to look at doesn't necessarily bear it out even just on his fan graphs page you can see he had a 21.1% home run to fly ball rate which is about double the league average or double major league average I should say I would imagine the DSL is lower than that these guys aren't hitting the ball quite that hard [SPEAKER_00]: And he also did some of his collecting free passes by way of just being very passive in the DSL.

[SPEAKER_00]: He had a swing rate of about 41, 42 percent.

[SPEAKER_00]: The basketball wasn't particularly great actually.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is a good PSA for folks.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you are looking at DSL contact rates on fan graphs, the way that they track pitches is not accurate.

[SPEAKER_00]: So if it is a breakout, they just log it as three straight.

[SPEAKER_00]: Swinging strikes, so you can never trust the contact rate, but what I saw under the hood was no real standout underlying tools in the way that similar season from Hizu's mod A last year was touted so highly.

[SPEAKER_00]: So if I had to choose a DSL or to go after, [SPEAKER_02]: uh...

it would be josewar de hazus gazzalas with the giants yeah and he's uh...

he's a fun one he and her mom had you know phenomenal year he's not a guy like we're talking about earlier with uh...

you know with the argule argule us [SPEAKER_02]: see what he does next year come state side.

[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, really interesting season from him.

[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know, he's one where I pushed him up my rankings, but I don't know, I'm not like, I wasn't like, oh, super loud by her mon either.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, at some point, you know, once you get beyond like 60 in a ranking sheet, like 60 to like 150 are all pretty similar.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then beyond that, like take any lottery ticket that you like, you know, so I'm on board with that.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, absolutely.

[SPEAKER_02]: All right, that was the last team.

[SPEAKER_02]: So to recap here, Arizona, we'll go through Bex first, Arizona.

[SPEAKER_02]: was Ryan Walshmit, Cam Camini for Atlanta, then the Cubs was Jackson Wiggins, Cincinnati, Alfredo Duno, the Colorado Rockies with Christian Arguelis, or Arguelis, I'm not sure how I'm saying that correctly, I'm not even sure, but, uh, and then we go to the Dodgers, that was Mike Sarota, Miami was Thomas White, [SPEAKER_02]: Milwaukee was Marco Dinjas, and then the Matt's Jonah Tong, Philadelphia was Eden Miller, Pittsburgh was Connor Griffin, and then was San Francisco was Bo Davidson San Diego, Garrett Hawkins, St.

[SPEAKER_02]: Louis, Radio Rodriguez, and finishing it off with Merconi Hermon.

[SPEAKER_02]: with the Nats.

[SPEAKER_02]: For me, Arizona was Ryan Walshmit at Lanta, Kim, Kim, and Nitty.

[SPEAKER_02]: We had, or I had Jonathan long for the Cubs.

[SPEAKER_02]: And the Rockies was Jeritomas.

[SPEAKER_02]: That might feel great about that one to be honest.

[SPEAKER_02]: The Dodgers, I end up going with Eduardo Contaro.

[SPEAKER_02]: Miami was Robbie Snelling.

[SPEAKER_02]: Milwaukee, Jesus, Modet.

[SPEAKER_02]: The Matt's Jonah Tong.

[SPEAKER_02]: The Philly's Aiden Miller, Pittsburgh, Conor Griffin.

[SPEAKER_02]: San Diego, Kashmir Fields.

[SPEAKER_02]: San Francisco, Bo David, Sin.

[SPEAKER_02]: St.

[SPEAKER_02]: Louis, Renia Rodriguez.

[SPEAKER_02]: and Hurley and Susanna running out for the nets.

[SPEAKER_02]: That was a lot of fun back.

[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for coming on.

[SPEAKER_00]: What are you going on right now?

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're gearing up to write the top 100 book last year.

[SPEAKER_00]: It took me about five months and 400 hours.

[SPEAKER_00]: It came out to 180 pages.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think this year is going to be bigger and better.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm really excited to dig into that.

[SPEAKER_00]: We have the prospect promotion incentive pod Spotify Apple YouTube wherever you're interested in listening the premises every week.

[SPEAKER_00]: We cover the players who are promoted across minor league baseball.

[SPEAKER_00]: We are thinking through what the off season will look like, but it will be a lot of AFL coverage for the month of October.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then we'll probably do team top 15 prospects throughout the winter months.

[SPEAKER_00]: You can find all of my writing over at the dynasty dugout.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's been less of that recently.

[SPEAKER_00]: I got married at a honeymoon.

[SPEAKER_00]: So nothing super up to date over there, but recommend that site to anybody.

[SPEAKER_00]: And you can follow me on Twitter at upper underscore back.
