As part of our #LesterInYourLounge broadcast from the Lawhill Maritime Centre, Lester Kiewit speaks to two Lawhill alumni whose journeys reflect the impact of the maritime education programme. Zuko Saule, former hostel head boy and now Head of Lawhill Operations, shared how the programme prepared him for a successful career ashore in logistics, shipping, and sales. After nearly two decades in the industry, Zuko has returned to Lawhill, combining his professional expertise with a passion for education and youth empowerment. Joining the conversation was Simamkele Ntingiso, a recent graduate of the Officer of the Watch programme at SAMTRA and former Simon’s Town School Head Boy. Simamkele, who grew up in Gugulethu, is preparing to complete his cadetship at sea with aspirations of becoming a Navigational Officer and eventually a Ship’s Captain. Both guests spoke about how Lawhill shaped their ambitions and gave them the foundation to pursue maritime careers.
