Speaker 1

Jordan and Jake.

I go good, I'm excited, ready to go the bomp stops.

He throws at a crossfield.

Guess who, Jeorge Grouse.

Here are your Panther Hall of Honor members, Jordan Gross and Jake Delone.

Speaker 2

Jake Delon, Jordan Gross, Jordan, Jake Podcast.

I'm Jordan, You're Jake, Jake not bad man.

Panthers are three and three.

I normally don't get right into it, but I'm pretty excited about what's happening at Bank of America Stadium.

Speaker 1

Buddy, Yeah, Jordan, I think everyone's kind of feeling the same way.

It just feels a little different, you know.

I know a few years ago when Sam Dorno was the quarterback, we started out three and oh, it just had a different feel to it than it does now.

Just watching how we're playing, who we're playing, who's playing well for some of the young kids, And yeah, it's a good feeling right now.

And can we sustain it?

I think that's the thing, you know, can we continue to see growth from the football team.

Speaker 2

Well, it's been a bit of a wild ride.

Going back to the Arizona game.

You and I got to spend together out there calling that thing, and the being down so much at halftime and fighting back and on side kicks and coming away from with a loss there on a close loss, and then now being three and zero at home, beating the Cowboys at home.

Jake, they always show up.

You can see on TV.

I know you were there.

There's a lot of Cowboys fans.

They're just like they annoy me.

I'm just gonna say it like it is to get the win at home.

I love Coach Canalis going for that fourth down to keep the drive alive of Renfro just being money who was not even on the team at final cuts and then comes back and now he's a clutch guy for us and Bryce can trust him and team Max scored two touchdowns, at Rico had a great de mean, there's just so much to celebrate, Jake.

Speaker 1

I agree, Jordan, and it was it was good to see.

I think the thing that maybe the encouraging thing, you know, the last two weeks running the football.

I think that's the identity that Coach Canalis wants to establish, and that's what we've done and the way our run defense has shown up, the physicality that we play with.

You have that Atlanta win, which was great thirty to nothing, and then you go and lay an egg the following week in New England, Who's turning out to be a pretty good football team.

I think at the time, unless you watched film on them, you didn't realize how talented of a team that was.

But yeah, Jordan is just it's a good deal and now it's kind of you can see where I know Austin Corbett, we designated him to come back from ir so that's gonna be great to get him back for for depth reasons, I don't think I'm not so sure how quick he'll be ready to go, but the way the Lion's playing with Brady at gored and Kate at center, you'd like to think we'd probably continue in that way and Austin can continue to get stronger and work himself back in to have a valuable piece because I mean through new offensive linemen in essence that started the season had to play last week.

So that's a credit to the O line coaches and things like that to be ready and to perform well.

Speaker 2

Well, I know that Corbett was not ever declared officially out for the season, but and maybe I'm out of the loop, Jake, but doesn't.

It seems to me like this has been a much quicker comeback than what we originally thought, especially when the the days after he got injured, and whether or not he's like, whether or not he's back sooner or rather than later, whatever.

The injection into the O line room to have him back back on the field and eventually practicing and getting back into it, that is going to inject a ton of life and just fun into that room.

They're getting one of their dudes back, and then it'll be interesting to see with the way the old line's playing.

To your point about all the different combinations that there's been, how we settle on when he does get back.

Is he the starter and it's a good problem to have, Jake.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I think it's a great problem.

I think we all assume the worst when Austin initially got injured, and it just kind of felt that way, and I think his reaction maybe told us that.

And I think as time went on, whenever the imaging came back, it wasn't as bad, and his recovery has gone quicker.

I think it's more of a relief for him in essence, and anything we can get with him.

I think it's just, you know, Lanya to be quite honest going forward, and this is a tough game, tough long season.

We're gonna need him at some point.

That's just the way it goes.

And even with Tuuba Hubbard, I'm not sure what his designation will be this week, but it's so long of a season with the way Rico's playing, and heck, Rico's cramped up in the fourth quarter of the last two weeks because of the load he's carrying.

And after the game Sunday afternoon, Jonathan Stewart was in the booth with us and I was asking him about with him and D'Angelo, Hey, I couldn't recall.

I'm like, y'all just do series?

How did it go?

He goes, Yeah, Jake, we did series, but if somebody was hot, we stayed in and then if we needed a blow, we just kind of tapped our head and got out and the other one would go in and he goes.

We loved it.

There was no jealousy because it's a long, hard season and helped keep our bodies fresh, and we kind of the defense didn't like it because you know, if I ran three, four or five times in a row and D'Angelo comes in.

It's a fresh body, a fresh back, So I'm looking forward to we can get that back and continue with the effort the focus of our run game.

I just think that's how the way we tick on offense.

Speaker 2

It takes special people, though, Jake, to be able to have that relationship where hey, man, you go in you know I ran speaking of the running backs, right, I ran the ball all the way down the field.

Now we're inside the ten, I'm a little tired.

You know, how you go in there and get that touch down, buddy, there's so much on the line with your career and the lifespan of it, and you know, in sentms and all of those things, it's really special to get two dudes that are okay with that relationship.

It'll be interesting to see it.

Seems like when I watched the TV copy.

You know, Cuba is pumped up when Rico comes off the field and is doing well.

But it's a delicate situation and you know Rico has been exactly as advertised.

You know, you feel great for him, set a franchise record for total scrimmage yars against the team that didn't re sign him, and watch out again like a good problem to have.

You're gonna have two running backs you feel good about.

It's a great problem to have.

This league is so we all know it.

Speaker 1

Joined It's so difficult and so hard, and I think you hit it on the head when you see any celebratory videos that's coming from the locker room, Tuba is right there behind the coach.

He is so excited.

I mean, Tuba has become one of the leaders on this football team.

Derek Brown certainly won.

I think J.

C.

Horn starting to use his voice a little bit more.

I think a Shawn Robinson, that's pretty evident.

But Tuba is one of the guys, and you just hear how the players marvel about him, just like he's there twenty four to seven.

He will sleep the night sometimes taking making sure his body's right.

And you get so much respect from your football team when you do things the right way and prepare and it just you make a couple other guys.

You know what, I might need to do a little bit.

He's had success.

Fourth round pick who they've signed to a long term deal.

Maybe that's why you have success.

T Matt got the end zone.

Speaker 2

I mentioned Matt first and second time in his career Jake how I just love watching him.

He just doesn't It's kind of hard to describe, but he doesn't move or look like a rookie out there.

He's such a smooth runner.

He's a you know, big tall guy's ballski.

It just maybe it's his Polynesian culture and the nature just like kind of just hey, I'm I'm calm, I'm collected, and it's fun to see him do so well.

I was looking at scrolling through the sports stuff ESPN to their ranking of their top ten rookies so far.

He's number four on there.

I could say it could be number one.

Man, He's just been outstanding.

Speaker 1

Jake.

Speaker 2

You enjoy watching him each and every week.

Speaker 1

Yeah, Jordan, he's I'm like you.

It seems effortless the way he runs his routes.

And listen, that was an adjustment on his first touchdown pass.

Bryce kind of gave a little signal to him, and that's due to film study, but to give signal in the sixth game of the season to a rookie and to know exactly they were both on the same page and Bryce stood in the pocket.

It was closing in a little bit.

He stood in there, and that's one thing I think Bryce is doing better of I find he's hanging a little longer in the pocket, which is really good.

But to run that little kind of dip route get in front of safety, they recognized it was a Cover four safety and he bit thinking he was going to run an in route.

And that's what I liked.

But what I liked most is interview after the game.

He was still so upset that he didn't catch the slant route when the ball went through his hands and popped up and Bry's and we had an interception.

He was so upset about that.

And that's the ones that when it means something to them, they don't want any mistake, any mistake to happen.

That's what I enjoyed.

Speaker 2

He's been a ton of fun to watch obviously so far this year.

Jake, we're twenty now, we're the Power Rankings one site.

Speaker 1

We got us at twenty one.

We're three and three.

Speaker 2

Let's just spend a minute talking about the difference between three and three and let's say two and four or god forbid one and five.

Jake, three and three puts us in a situation after six games with a ton of the season still in front of US still have the bye week, but we're legitimately in contention to just you know, hey, let's keep playing well, let's keep moving forward.

But we're in a spot now, man, where we're like a place at the table when it comes to looking way down the road at playoffs.

And you know, obviously Tampa is off to such a hot start.

They look really good in our division, atlant Us three and two.

The Saints are one and five, but not too bad, Jake to be five hundred at this point.

And then kind of TRANSI into the Jets.

Our travel up there against the Jets team that's winless, that had to go to Dang London and play last week.

Hopefully they're jet lagged and all thrown off.

But look at okay, Jake in this late October part of the year.

Speaker 1

Yeah, Jordan, listen, I think this game is it's huge, right one, because it's the next one.

Okay, let's get the coach speak out the way, but we're going to play a team that is struggling mightily, right the Jets.

They haven't had success.

The fans are waiting to turn on them.

They've turned on them already, Like let's go on the road.

We've won three games at home.

Let's go on the road and let's go play panther football.

Don't turn it over, sound, run defense, run the football, make plays when you have to in the passing game, and just show up.

That's what I'm looking forward to us to see if we can do that this week.

And I think we can.

And it's kind of you know, you're kind of hearing, Hey, we're starting to practice a little bit different.

I just think a team has to come together, and there's so many rookies on this team, but they're showing up and young players, and you look at Trev Morrigan, like, how good of a signing was that?

Bobby Brown showed up this week?

The big d lineman.

A couple of plays during that game, You're like, yes, this big you know, these big men watching both linebackers, especially Trevin Wallace.

I think the thing he was a rookie last year, thrust into action and was kind of running around with his head cut off, and then had the injury, and then they changed it two weeks ago.

He's become the green dot on defense where he calls the plays and him and Roseboom were playing different.

So it takes a while for our team to come together and you're liking what we're doing, but can we go do it on the road.

That's the thing that I'm looking forward to to, seeing three on the road, three and three at home.

Speaker 2

So obviously we got to change what's been happening thus far.

I'd like to spend a minute Jake talking about playing in London on Sunday.

So for for East Coast folks, London, I believe is five hours ahead.

Then you get, you play, you get you were there a few days.

I don't know what their schedule was, but then you get on the plane, you come home, Jacob.

Normally you go a bye after those Europe games.

Speaker 1

Now not even every team gets a buy after that.

Speaker 2

That's a tough turnaround, man, the coaches, everybody, your family, You've been away.

Now you've got to come in and Monday we got to have our game plan getting put together.

Wednesday we got to have practice ready to go.

That's gonna be difficult for the New York Jets, and I hope it's extremely difficult.

Speaker 1

Just to be no, I'm like you, but I think you're starting to see, especially some of the East East Coast teams, they're not taking the bye after London.

They're waiting to get it a little bit later.

I guess because in essence, you're playing three and a half hours earlier and the flight back.

Yes, I know it's extended, but if you're going, if you're poor Seattle some of your flights, that's like the deal with five.

Speaker 2

Hour time zone.

Speaker 1

Differently, No, you're right, I agree, I agree.

No, I'm just I'm just saying I think some teams are starting to do godd But Jordan, I am like you.

I was watching that game last week, and I wanted the Jets to upset Denver.

I wanted them to win, feel good about themselves and relax a little bit.

Uh, because you know, it's always dangerous playing a team that's never you know, never never won a game, because it's it's a it's a desperation by any means necessary.

Speaker 2

Did we ever play Did we play up there?

You got you guys might have played up there after.

I like the game after I broke my leg or something at New York Jets.

It seems I don't think I ever played the Jets at New York.

Speaker 1

It was always the Giants two thousand and nine, Jordan, I we played in New York and Brad Hoover was our tailback.

Yeah.

Well that was my last game ever playing as a Panther.

I broke my finger.

I broke my hand early in the game.

Calvin Pace, I think, but that defense was that was the Rex Ryan defense was Sean Ellis.

Oh my gosh.

They just had Revas Island and all they were they were.

Yeah, but that was my last game I ever played, was up against the Jets.

Broke my hand and didn't see the field ever again.

Got released in the offseason.

Speaker 2

Nothing like talking about the good old days.

Speaker 1

Hun Jake, Hey, listen, that's part of the deal.

We got to accept it.

I never liked playing in New York.

Speaker 2

You fly remember the first time I ever went there was it was a Giants game pre season two thousand and three.

Remember we flew in and like all of New York had no power, so there's some massive outage.

Speaker 1

You remember that.

Yeah, but you know, you fly in.

I think what you fly into Jersey was that that was O three, wasn't it?

Almost positive?

It was?

But you fly in and then you're staying in Jersey.

It's right across the street, the meadowlands right at the time, So one you see nothing, which it is what it is.

Speaker 2

I mean, you see New York when you're flying in, Yeah, you do the city, but just in and out, you know, in and out.

Speaker 1

And uh yeah.

We've had a couple of good wins there though, some some good memories, you know, beating the Giants in the playoffs in five, which would have been January sixth, That was fun, a beautiful day and they were all waving their white towels and they were all excited on the opening drive and oh yeah, quiet the rest of the day.

Speaker 2

I gave up a sack fumble in the end zone one time at playing the Giants in MetLife Stadium, and I had to pick it up.

I've told you the story before.

Speaker 1

I had to pick it up because it.

Speaker 2

Would have been a touchdown if anybody on the Giants for cover.

And I ran it two yards out of the end zone and then got blown up.

And then all my friends called me and told me how awesome it was that I got to carry the ball.

Speaker 1

But it really was like a terrible play.

I'm almost positive that was late in the year and three against Michael Strahan.

Speaker 2

Was twelve or you were a long guy, you'd already gotten out of.

Speaker 1

Here high tail.

But we played them in O three going to the Super Bowl late in the season, and they were really struggling.

But you were like, oh my gosh, Michael Strahan grown up.

You were like, he's unbelievable.

But I feel like he could have put me in time out if he wanted.

He was so much older than me.

It seemed like, Well, he and Foxy were such good friends, and he gave me a couple of tips after the game.

He was like, hey, do this with your hands on the center.

He goes, I was trying to pick up on you.

I think I can get a beat on this.

It was little things like that that I appreciated because he knew we were going on a run, and he and coach fox are like best of friends, and so I always appreciated him in that regard.

Speaker 2

Yeah, that was a scary moment going against the Hall of Famer in your first season, but we got the We won that game because they were already all checked out, getting ready to go to the off season mode, going to vacations.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

Well, you know, hey, one thing you didn't get to enjoy because you were on the call.

Speaker 1

Greg Olsen was.

Speaker 2

The broadcaster for the Fox broadcast.

Did you get to see him at all up there in the bod?

I mean, he sure does an awesome job.

He done a good job not being a homer.

Also, No, he does a fantastic job.

Speaker 1

He's very objective, you know, he's real right and uh, yeah he was in the Uh talk to him before the game, thought that Tate the sun was up there and nice.

Yeah.

I was just kind of asking Tate.

I said, seriously, what kind of coach is your dad?

And Luke and Jonathan because they were all in there, and Tate said, you know, they're good, but he kind of winked at me.

You know, so as have some stories there that he could probably tell me.

Speaker 2

Well, I'm going to tell you a story from my high school game on Friday night.

Speaker 1

If you care here, I would love to hear it.

Speaker 2

So we were playing the big rival, Okay home delt Trojans at home, and we're up by seven in the fourth quarter and we ended find ourselves in a situation where we get a personal foul after the play one of our players unsportsmanlike for using foul language because it was a highly contested game.

Speaker 1

Right, So then our.

Speaker 2

Our quarterback goes to getting his face and is yelling at him like when we get back to our own huddle, that he's got to knock that off.

And he gets flagged for yelling at our own team.

Okay, so then I felt like that was incorrect.

So I may or may not have then told the officials that I didn't think that you should do that in kind of a elevated emotional state, and so then I got flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.

So, Jake, we found ourselves third and fifty five, what.

Speaker 1

Did you call, mister offensive coordinator?

Speaker 2

I'm not the offensive coordinator.

Our offensive coordinator is the offensive coordinator.

But I was pumping.

I was pumping the guys up because I was like, it's in us against them mentality.

Right, we call like a reverse throwback to the quarterback with our third receiver, our wife slipping out, defense lost him, take it to the house touchdown.

Speaker 1

Jake, you're lying, Oh my gosh, how was the celebration?

Yeah, celebration penalty because I got I can see you're just dying laughing.

I was like, because I was kind of mad, you know, to be honest.

Speaker 2

Yeah, And it's hard, you know, it is a difficult thing coaching high school football is you're you know, we're pretty decent this year, and there's a lot of really good teams.

The team that we just played, we hadn't beat them in like eight years.

So you get really emotionally intense because you're in football intense situations.

Speaker 1

It's hard.

It's to challenge to like keep it rained in.

Speaker 2

So after we scored, I went back into like business coach mode, and I'm like, one, I'm holding up the one, you know, because I'm the head coach.

Speaker 1

I gotta do that.

Speaker 2

Like we're going for one and the sideline's going nuts and nobody has the kicking block, and like, oh my god.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

So we ended up winning.

Speaker 2

By twenty two points.

So we're seven to zero now going to play against another rivalry kind of team.

So it's a good time of year right now.

Man, the leads are changing.

And last week my youths we won, the Panthers won.

I got the trifecta.

It was a pretty nice weekend at the gross household.

Speaker 1

Well, I love it.

Well, let's hopefully maybe we can kind of recreate that again this weekend.

I'm looking forward to watching us play and seeing if we can answer all right, Well, and you got the weekend off right this one, so I'll be able to enjoy it.

And uh, you know, Jordan, before we go off, I've never done this.

I ran into someone I know from here on Friday at something with horses anyway, good you know, friend of mine in acquaintance, and he was like, hey, he said, I have family up in North Carolina.

He said, some of my family members.

He told me their name.

He said they were the original PSL ticket holders and I was like really, and then he went to tell me, and I'd never heard of this little town, but he said, I still have a ton of family.

They're going to the game against Dallas.

I believe they're from Charlotte, North Carolina.

It's on the Yeah, I think it's on the on the coast, right, I think kind of southwest southeast North Carolina.

But yeah, he was telling me that, and I just thought it was pretty cool.

I guess he told me he said, look, Bookie, Jamie and Sam they're all going to the game.

And said, well, listen, that's awesome.

But let me tell you something.

This was the greatest thing that happened last week.

The game ends, Fitzgerald bangs it through right when he bangs it through.

Everybody's clapping.

Sweet Carolina starts playing the Dallas Degenerates stand up and they start walking out immediate.

I mean you just saw it.

All the Panther fans were just hands up in the air, screaming Sweet Caroline waving by to him.

It was so awesome.

I can't I mean, I couldn't stop laughing.

I was like, you know what, that's what we need.

We need more of that.

It needs to get back to this that our place is a rocking stadium, because you and I both know what it's like when it gets rocking and rolling.

It's a lot of fun.

Speaker 2

It seems to be trended in that direction direction, Jake, So, man, four and three I can live with four and three.

Speaker 1

Man, Let's get this thing done.

Let's do it man.

It's and hopefully those fruitl and grizzlies can kind of show up this week and not get all these.

Speaker 2

Flax and yeah, third and fifty five is not something that you normally want to see, but you know, hey, overcome your adversities exactly.

Speaker 1

Well.

Best of luck, budde
