When You Miss Who You Used to Be

September 25
5 mins

Episode Description

It’s easy to look back at a previous version of yourself and feel the ache of missing who you used to be—healthier, more energetic, or unburdened by the struggles you face now. But as tonight's prayer and devotional reminds us, our true identity isn’t rooted in who we were, but in who we are becoming in Christ.

Amber shares her personal story of moving from stamina and strength to navigating life with multiple diagnoses and limitations. Though her body changed, God’s promise of renewal did not. She discovered a deeper joy in small blessings, gratitude for hard days, and a faith that reshaped her perspective.

Your worth isn’t defined by what you’ve lost but by the eternal truth that in Christ, you are made new. The past self may no longer exist, but God is faithfully forming something beautiful in the present and future you.

Tonight’s Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come."

🙏 Your Nightly Prayer

Dear Jesus,
Sometimes it’s so hard not to miss who I used to be—physically, mentally, or emotionally. Yet, in You, I am a new creation. Help me release shame, grief, or frustration and embrace the truth that You are making me new each day. Thank You for renewing me from the inside out and using even my struggles for Your glory.
Amen.

🧘 Three Things to Meditate Upon

  1. Reflect on who you used to be and who you’re becoming. Be honest with God about both the grief and the gratitude.

  2. Reframe your perspective: write down the lies you feel about your present self and counter them with God’s truth.

  3. Daydream with God about your future. Surrender your unknowns to Him and trust His good plans for your life.
