The show opens at Royal Birkdale, where Lucas Herbert and Sam Burns each shoot an 8-under 62 during the second round of The Open. Their scores match the lowest round ever recorded in a men’s major championship, a mark first established by Branden Grace at Birkdale in 2017.

Herbert takes the lead into the weekend after narrowly missing a chance to become the first player to shoot 61 in a men’s major. Burns finishes with 3 consecutive birdies, while Bryson DeChambeau remains in contention despite receiving a controversial 2-stroke penalty. Jackson Suber, Cameron Young, Ryan Gerard, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy also remain within range. Chris examines the live futures and why Scheffler remains the betting favorite despite sitting several shots behind Herbert.

In Major League Baseball, the Washington Nationals open the second half by scoring 23 runs against the Athletics. Andrés Chaparro homers twice, and Harry Ford goes deep in his major-league debut as Washington produces one of the season’s most lopsided results.

Atlanta also delivers a dominant performance against Texas. Drake Baldwin drives in 5 runs, Chris Sale controls the game on the mound and pitcher Victor Mederos contributes a 2-run single after the Braves lose their designated hitter.

Chris also runs through the rest of Friday’s MLB scoreboard, including Boston sweeping a doubleheader against Tampa Bay, the Dodgers edging the Yankees, the White Sox upsetting Toronto, Kansas City beating San Diego and San Francisco shutting out Seattle behind a Willy Adames grand slam.

The WNBA section focuses on Caitlin Clark producing the highest-scoring performance of her professional career while also reaching double figures in assists against the Seattle Storm. Chris breaks down the unexpectedly competitive matchup, Dominique Malonga’s major performance for Seattle and a combined scoring total that easily surpassed expectations.

Other WNBA games include Chicago against Los Angeles, Atlanta facing the Toronto Tempo and Connecticut taking on Phoenix behind a career night from Leïla Lacan.

The episode then previews the World Cup third-place match between France and England. Chris discusses the uncertainty surrounding motivation, lineup rotation and how both teams respond after difficult semifinal defeats. He also looks ahead to Sunday’s World Cup final between Spain and defending champion Argentina, with Lionel Messi attempting to lead his country to the first consecutive men’s World Cup titles since Brazil in 1958 and 1962.

The show closes in Switzerland, where Alexander Bublik, Casper Ruud, Valentin Vacherot and Arthur Rinderknech are all eliminated from the Swiss Open, leaving the tournament without any of its top 4 seeds before the semifinals.
