Episode Description

Dawn on the Somme, 15 September 1916. At 06:20, the whistles blew and men climbed from their trenches into the attack. But this morning, something else moved with them - steel monsters clanking forward on tracks, belching fumes, and crushing wire. The world’s first tanks would go into battle at Flers–Courcelette. What happened that day has been remembered as both a marvel of invention and a muddled gamble. Today, we’ll unpack the reality behind the myth.
