Sudan researcher/journalist Joshua Craze returns to RWN for the grim 3rd year anniversary of the war. He describes the increasingly fractal and messy nature of the war, its shifting alliances within and outside of Sudan, the genocidal massacres in El Fashir, and the dim prospects for an end to the ever-widening war.
Glossary:
-RSF (Rapid Support Forces): led by Hemedti, originally set up by ousted Sudanese leader Omar Bashir as a paramilitary/death squad in Darfur. Today backed by UAE via UAE allies in CAR (Central African Republic), Ethiopia, Chad, eastern Libya's breakaway leader Khalifa Haftar, elements of Russia's Wagner Group/Africa Corps.
-SAF (Sudan Armed Forces): state military modeled on Egyptian military, led by Gen. al-Burhan (Abdel Fattah al al-Burhan), in uneasy alliance with Islamists. SAF backed by Egypt, Iran, Saudis, Turkey, Qatar, Russia. Training in Eritrea.
