Jimmy Prout was a vulnerable 45‑year‑old man living in North Shields, surrounded by people he believed were his friends. But behind that façade of friendship, he became trapped under the control of Zahid Zaman, whose influence over the group created a closed, cult‑like environment that Jimmy could not escape.

Over 153 days, Jimmy was subjected to escalating cruelty, psychological domination, and sustained abuse that left him isolated, weakened, and entirely dependent on the very people harming him. The violence he endured was later described in court as “dark ages” in its brutality, yet Jimmy remained loyal to the group until the end.
