Episode Description
What does Elijah's showdown with the priests of Baal have to do with temple work? More than you might think. In 1 Kings 18, Elijah rebuilds the broken altar of the Lord using twelve stones — one for each tribe of Israel — before fire falls from heaven and the people declare, "The Lord, he is the God." In this episode, we explore how this moment on Mount Carmel is a prophetic pattern of the Gathering of Israel: scattered tribes brought back to the altar, covenants restored, and hearts turned to the God of their fathers through the house of the Lord. This powerful interaction foretold in many ways our worship and sacrifice in our modern day temples.
