For many husbands, sexual desire can feel strong, spontaneous, and always ready to go. But instead of allowing that desire to turn into frustration, pressure, or resentment when intimacy doesn’t happen, men can learn how to harness that energy and use it in other ways to strengthen attraction, connection, and their marriage.

For many wives, desire may work differently. Rather than appearing spontaneously, sexual desire can often be responsive, awakening through emotional connection, affection, flirting, feeling desired, reducing stress, anticipation, and intentionally making space for intimacy.

That means neither spouse has to simply accept, “This is just how I am.” Both can better understand their sexuality and learn how to cultivate desire in healthy, intentional ways.

Couples can stop allowing differences in libido to divide them and instead work together to create an intimate relationship where both spouses feel wanted, understood, pursued, and satisfied. 

Having different levels of desire doesn’t mean you’re incompatible. The goal isn’t for one spouse to suppress their sexuality or for the other to force desire, it’s learning how to understand, cultivate, and enjoy sexual intimacy together.
