Faith and Transition

Episode Description

Join leading gender-affirming surgeon and bio-ethicist Ioannis Ntanos (he/him) in conversation with Jim (he/him), a trans man and ministry ordinand with the United Reformed Church, for an uplifting discussion on faith, identity, and finding belonging in religious spaces.

Ioannis and Jim discuss LGBTQ+ representation in church communities, the importance of churches taking affirming stances with minorities rather than choosing neutrality, and Jim's journey from feeling unwelcome in his childhood Baptist church after coming out to becoming the third openly trans minister in the URC.

Jim shares powerful insights on reclaiming scripture - exploring how returning to original languages and historical contexts transforms commonly misused passages, and discussing biblical references to gender non-conforming people like eunuchs and God's acceptance of them. Jim also reflects on his top surgery experience - how faith strengthened him through recovery, and his belief that God's creation is beautifully diverse beyond our often-rigid human definitions.

Featured Guest

Jim (he/him) is a trans man and ministry ordinand in his second year of training with the United Reformed Church, where he will become the third openly trans minister in the denomination.
