He founded the Cokenders Alcohol and Drug Program, which detoxified over 1,500 people without medication, and created the Health Sanctuary at Wilbur Hot Springs, which he directed for 48 years. His work has appeared in Time, Newsweek, NBC News, and CBS News. He has also served as a consultant to the President's Commission on Mental Health and the U.S. Department of Justice.
