Jack Hindle: The Conference Title, the WhatsApp to Malaysia, and the Knee That Sent Him Home
Jack Hindle is the only English footballer to ever play professionally in Malaysia. He got there on a message from a Spanish coach he had never met.
Jack grew up in the north of England and won the Conference title with Barrow in 2020, in a COVID-shortened season decided on points per game. In 2021 he signed for Kelantan FC, one of Malaysia's biggest clubs. A Spanish assistant manager had pulled him off a Spanish deal and offered him Malaysia instead. Ten games in, a knee injury required surgery in Malaysia by a South Korean surgeon. After a year of rehab and stints in Wales and Italy, he signed with Peninsula Power in Brisbane in 2023.
For any young English footballer who thinks the only path is up the English pyramid, this is the episode on what opens up when you look outside.
