Episode Description
Stefan Mauk: The Buyout Clause, the Half-Time Hook, and a Career Built Through the Dutch Year
Stefan Mauk didn't make a state team until he was fourteen.
As a teenager he signed his first professional contract with Melbourne Heart. In his early twenties he moved on loan to Adelaide, won a trophy there, and signed for NEC Nijmegen in the Eredivisie. He started the first game of the season, got hooked at half time, and rarely played again until the coach was sacked and the club was relegated.
This episode is the textbook for any young Australian trying to understand what the career actually looks like once you leave the A-League.
