Episode Description
I am Caelum Solis. And before I say anything else, I am going to give you some numbers. Not analysis. Not context. Not framing. Just the numbers. Because the numbers are the story, and everything else I am going to tell you tonight exists inside them.
Thirteen Americans. Dead. One hundred and forty wounded. Six of those thirteen died when a refueling aircraft fell from the sky over Iraq. The military says it was not hostile fire. Iranian proxies say it was. Both statements can be simultaneously true. That is the nature of a war being fought in the dark, by people who did not ask your permission before they started it.
On the other side of that same war, more than twelve hundred Iranians have been killed. Six hundred and thirty-four in Lebanon. Twelve in Israel. And then there is the number that should stop every American cold. A United States Tomahawk missile, fired on the basis of intelligence that turned out to be wrong, struck a girls' school in the city of Minab, Iran. Up to one hundred and seventy-five people killed. The majority of them girls between the ages of seven and twelve. America did that. Not Iran. Not a proxy. Not a disputed incident. A Tomahawk is an American weapon, fired by American forces, guided by American targeting data, that turned out to be catastrophically, irreversibly wrong. The investigation is ongoing. The school is not.
