Episode Description
A statue arrives in the U.S. Capitol a hundred and twenty-eight years late, and Harmonia uses its improbable, unsanitized honoree to close out the suffrage arc: Martha Hughes Cannon, a Welsh-born physician and plural wife who was enfranchised, disenfranchised by federal law, fled to Europe rather than testify against her husband, and returned to defeat that same husband at the polls to become the first woman elected to a state senate in America, where she used the office to legislate public health rather than simply hold it.
