Episode Description
What do you do when the business you built is suddenly no longer viable?
In this episode of the Gold Coast Podcast, Eric Winegard sits down with Calvin Gray, CEO of Struxure South Florida, to discuss entrepreneurship, sales, leadership, faith, company culture, outdoor living, and rebuilding after the 2008 financial crash.
Calvin previously owned a window-replacement business on Florida’s west coast. When housing values collapsed, financing disappeared, and leads became increasingly difficult to generate, he was forced to close the business and let employees go.
For a period of time, Calvin went from business owner back to employee. But he never viewed it as permanent.
While searching for a differentiated opportunity, Calvin was introduced to an innovative louvered-roof system that could transform an exposed patio into a customizable outdoor living space. He immediately recognized the opportunity and helped bring the product to the South Florida market.
More than a decade later, Struxure South Florida serves residential and commercial clients, including major luxury properties, country clubs, developments, the Miami Dolphins’ media center, and Formula 1 hospitality spaces.
Calvin explains why the company is not simply building patio covers. It is designing outdoor kitchens, dining rooms, entertainment spaces, and resort-style environments that often become a homeowner’s favorite room.
Eric and Calvin also discuss the importance of mastering sales, taking action before having every answer, protecting company culture, rewarding performance, developing employees, and building a team that genuinely cares about one another.
Calvin also shares his five-year vision: helping build the largest outdoor-living company in the United States.
