In this first episode of the new series of the Clifftown Podcast I went in search of the last resting place of the world famous HMS Beagle, the ship that conveyed Charles Darwin around the world in a trip that changed science and society forever. It also happens to lie in the salt marsh near Southend. Of course, not all is so straight forward and the episode takes in the adventurous fabled history of local smuggler ‘Hard Apple’ and the strange link between the small Essex hamlet of Pagelsham and Warren Beatty.
