Episode Description

Doug Levitt has taken an unusual path through journalism, songwriting, and storytelling. A former foreign correspondent for CNN and ABC, Doug later spent years traveling across the United States by Greyhound bus, listening to people, documenting their stories, and turning those experiences into music and film.

In this conversation, Doug talks about the origins of The Greyhound Diaries, the people and places he encountered on the road, and how those experiences shaped his songwriting. We also discuss the BBC World Service documentary that grew out of the project, as well as his album Edge of Everywhere.

It’s a conversation about travel, observation, storytelling, and the creative process of turning real-life encounters into songs.
