Episode Description
Hokum (2026), directed by Damian McCarthy (Caveat, Oddity), is a new supernatural psychological horror story set in Ireland that blends grief, folklore, and isolation — and a troubled writer locked away in a haunted hotel room.
Starring Adam Scott (Severance, Parks and Recreation), the film follows a novelist who retreats to a remote inn to scatter his parents’ ashes only to become entangled in a chilling legend about a witch tied to the honeymoon suite.
As visions intensify and a mysterious disappearance unfolds, the story forces him to confront both the supernatural and his own past.
In this episode of Talking Strange, McCarthy returns to the show to break down the folklore behind the film, how atmosphere drives fear, and why some stories refuse to stay buried.
Would you stay in a room with a dark history?
