Episode Description
What mysteries lie beneath the cold, endless waters of Lake Michigan?
In this episode of Spirits Uncorked, Elizabeth and Erica dive into the haunting legends and unexplained phenomena surrounding one of North America’s greatest lakes — from vanished ships and missing time to ancient stories of powerful water spirits.
The sisters explore the disappearance of Le Griffon, often called Michigan’s oldest ghost ship, and the enduring mystery of why it has never been found. They also unpack Indigenous folklore surrounding Mishipeshu, the feared Water Panther believed to control storms, shipwrecks, and violent waves beneath the surface. Erica describes how “when Lake Michigan… turns from glassy calm to you should not be here, that’s Mishipeshu, shifting in his lair” .
Along the way, they reflect on history, storytelling, cultural memory, and why certain places seem to hold onto their secrets. With wine in hand and curiosity wide open, Elizabeth and Erica invite you to join them in exploring what the lake remembers — and what it refuses to give back.
