May 2026 will offer skywatchers a rare lunar event with two full moons in one calendar month. The first arrives on May 1 and is known as the Flower Moon. The second rises on May 31 and is called a Blue Moon. The Flower Moon reaches peak illumination during the day in North America, but it will still look full and bright on the evenings before and after May 1. Its name comes from the many flowers that bloom across the Northern Hemisphere during spring. Both May full moons will also be micromoons. This happens when a full moon occurs...
