Today, Jack Smith testified on Capitol Hill. Republicans tried their absolute hardest to take on the man who tried to put their dear leader in jail- but they failed.

During the nearly five and a half hour testimony, Republicans avoided all things having to do with facts. Instead, they tried to shift the blame of January 6th off Trump, attempting to say that the Capitol Policer officers who were there that day defending the capitol, the country, and the same members of Congress that are now trying to besmirch their names were responsible for the attack. Truly insane stuff.

Michael Fanone, a former Capitol Police officer who was in the audience during the testimony, responded to MAGA Congressman Troy Nehls’ disgusting claim that J6 was their fault, by loudly coughing the words “Go fuck yourself.” Yes, we took a little bit too much pleasure in that video and may have played it a couple dozen (or more) times.

During the testimony, Republicans could not do anything but try to shift the blame. They took no accountability for their enabling of Trump, and subsequent defense of his actions on January 6th. At one point, Republicans tried to say that Jack Smith did not properly sign his oath of office as special counsel, and asked whether he was “too friendly” with a colleague who recommended him for job.

Uh, seriously? Republicans are really going to play the “corruption” card after letting Trump and his family enrich themselves to the tune of 1.8 billion in cash since becoming president, with golden phone grifts and Qatari private jet deals?

However, Jack Smith was able to concretely demonstrate the findings of his investigation:

“President Trump was charged because the evidence established that he willfully broke the law -- the very laws he took an oath to uphold. Grand juries in 2 separate districts reached this conclusion based on his actions. Rather than accept his defeat in the 2020, President Trump engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the results and prevent the lawful transfer of power.”
