Episode 541: Spiritual Combat - Chapter II

Chapter 2 teaches that genuine spiritual victory hinges on a divinely‑gifted “distrust of self,” the humble recognition that we are fundamentally nothing apart from God’s grace and that any virtue originates solely from Him. Since our corrupted nature inflates our self‑esteem, we must first meditate on our utter worthlessness, then earnestly pray for God’s assistance, constantly fear our own sinful inclinations, and, whenever we stumble, use the fall as a catalyst for deeper self‑knowledge and repentance. By repeatedly confronting our frailty, rejecting any pretended strength, and seeking God’s illumination, we cultivate true humility, prevent pride, and secure the inner disposition essential for attaining Christian perfection.
