Episode Description
For Episode 2 of PuckPedia Cap Central, Hart Levine and Keith Kavanaugh dive into the entry-level contract slides for some of the young players in the NHL (2:30). Matthew Schaefer, Ben Kindel, Sam Dickinson, and Zayne Parekh have already passed the 10-game threshold and will burn a year off their ELC this season (5:00).
Other players like Michael Misa, Berkly Catton, Harrison Brunicke, and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard are close to that threshold but still remain with their teams. We also talk about why those players can't be sent to the AHL and have to go back to their junior teams (10:00).
Then they talk about the Jacob Markstrom extension with the New Jersey Devils, where he signed a 2-year, $6M AAV deal beginning in the 26-27 season (13:15). We talk through the trade protection in his deal, how the tandem of him and Jake Allen will only cost New Jersey $7.8M for the next couple of seasons (15:00).
NJ won't have to rush their young goaltending prospects Mikhail Yegorov, Jakub Malek, or Nico Daws. They also touch on NJ's cap picture for next season (16:30), they have $93.825M committed for next season with around $10M in projected space for a few RFA's (Nemec, Gritsyuk, Cotter, and Daws).
Then they wrap up with user-submitted questions. The big question for this week was David Kampf with the Toronto Maple Leafs and what will happen if his contract gets terminated. Hart goes through all the scenarios and details that could play out in the near future (18:00).
