This probably sounds strange coming from a heart doctor. In about ten minutes I could tell you everything you need to know to protect your heart, and almost none of it would matter. Because in three weeks you would be doing none of it. I have watched this happen to brilliant, disciplined patients over and over again.

In this episode, I'm going to explain why knowing what is good for your heart so rarely turns into doing it, and share the surprisingly small fix that finally makes it stick.

❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Why do smart, disciplined people still struggle to change their heart health habits?
Struggling to change is not a sign of weak discipline. Most people fail because they try to change too many habits at once using motivation alone, which naturally fades within weeks, leaving even the smartest people right back where they started.

What is the small habit method that actually works for heart health?
Pick one area of health, choose one tiny behavior inside it, and anchor it to something you already do daily, like drinking a glass of water when you sit down to dinner. Celebrating the action immediately helps the brain register it as a win, which makes you far more likely to repeat it the next day without needing extra motivation.

Does willpower actually cause most health resolutions to fail?
No. Most resolutions fail because the plan itself was unrealistic, not because the person lacked willpower or discipline. Smaller, anchored habits succeed because they do not depend on constant motivation to survive the first difficult weeks.
