Close your eyes and picture someone having a heart attack. You probably imagined an older man clutching his chest. That picture is one of the deadliest ideas a woman can carry, because it convinces her heart trouble happens to someone else, someone older, someone who looks nothing like her.
In this episode, I'm going to explain why heart disease gets missed in women so often, what it actually looks like when it isn't the dramatic movie version, and the one thing I want every woman watching to go and do this week.

❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
What are the signs of a heart attack in a woman?
Signs in women can include ongoing tiredness, breathlessness on stairs you used to climb easily, a stomach ache, or an ache spreading into the jaw or back. These symptoms are often vague, easy to explain away, and get blamed on stress, hormones, or menopause instead of being checked properly by a doctor.
Why do doctors miss heart attacks in women?
Many people, including some doctors, still believe heart disease mainly affects men, so women's symptoms get dismissed or explained away by stress or age. Women also tend to prioritize everyone else's health appointments before their own, which delays diagnosis until the disease is much further along.
Can a normal cholesterol result still mean you are at risk of a heart attack?
Yes. A cardiac scan can show significant plaque buildup even when standard blood tests and cholesterol numbers look completely normal. This is why looking at your actual heart risk through proper imaging, not just standard bloods, matters so much for women.
