John was 45, up before six for the gym, ran on weekends, and cooked nearly every meal from scratch. He looked like the healthiest man in the room. Then a scan showed one of his heart arteries was badly blocked and he needed a stent. His story shook a lot of people in my clinic, because it broke the rule most of us live by, that looking fit means being safe.

In this episode, I'm going to walk you through John's real case, explain why being fit does not automatically mean your heart is safe, and show you the exact questions to ask yourself before you assume your gym routine has you covered.

❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Can you be fit and still have heart disease?
Yes. Fitness improves your heart's function, but it does not guarantee your arteries are clear of plaque. Around 6 in 10 men and 4 in 10 women have silent arterial buildup while feeling completely well, often with no symptoms until it is serious.

Does exercise cancel out the effects of chronic stress?
No. Long term stress and poor sleep can damage arteries regardless of how much you train or how clean your diet is, so exercise alone does not offset that risk, and stress hormones can quietly harm your vessels for years.

What are the warning signs that fitness might be masking a heart problem?
Family history of heart disease, chronic stress, poor sleep, and never having your heart properly scanned are the biggest red flags. If several apply to you, it is time to get checked rather than assume your fitness routine has already covered it.
