For more than sixty years, San Gregorio stood as a rare survivor of California's early nude beach movement, protected less by statute than by a longstanding understanding between public shoreline and private stewardship. Its transition into the state park system secures the land's future, but also ends one of the most important continuous traditions in American naturist history.
