Maui officials approved the Mākena State Park improvement plan after the state dropped new asphalt, reduced lighting, and disavowed any plan to restore the gate at Little Beach. The decision offers some immediate reassurance, but a required carrying-capacity study due in 2029 could reopen the question of reservations, controlled entry, and the future of one of Hawaiʻi’s longest-used nude beaches.
