Episode Description

Christian rapper-turned-comic Rufat Agayev graces the show this week to give Kid Cudi his flowers, speak on the “B.O.Bification” of music in the 2010s, and explain why Lupe Fiasco changed his life.

Rufat Agayev is a Brooklyn-based stand-up comedian, writer, and actor. Born in Azerbaijan, he immigrated to the U.S. as a refugee in the early ’90s. He first gained recognition as a rapper, opening for artists including Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, and Mac Miller, before pivoting to stand-up comedy in New York City.

Known for sharp writing, big act-outs, and inventive observations, Rufat has become a fixture of the NYC comedy scene, performing at top clubs and producing acclaimed shows in unconventional spaces like storefronts and record shops. His debut special, The Bad Rufat!, executive produced by Joe Pera (800 Pound Gorilla Media) and directed by Shaliek Jenkins, was filmed in a former Yugoslavian mob bar turned record shop.

He’s a featured writer in the HarperCollins anthology Alien Nation, hosts Scorpion Records Comedy Night, and has appeared on The Adam Friedland Show, Stavvy’s World, Subway Takes, Gaydar, MESS, and Don’t Tell Comedy.
