I’ve been a boy band fan since I was … a boy. From the Jacksons to New Edition to NKOTB, the Backstreet Boys & NSYNC, even through to the Jonas Brothers, Big Time Rush, One Direction, BTS and K-Pop in general, boy bands have captured my attention, both as a fan and as an artist.

This episode is the first of two parts, and features a prehistory of boy bands, stretching back into ancient times and ending just before peak boy band era (which will be covered in Part 2 next week). I also offer maybe the most thorough definition ever of what a boy band is – and ISN’T.
