Too Long Didn’t Listen

* The FAA grants for Vance Brand Airport finally passed, 6-1. Council voted to accept two federal grants covering 95% of the cost to reconstruct the airport’s taxilanes. Mayor Pro Tem McCoy was the only vote in opposition.

* The city is moving forward with buying the YMCA. Council voted unanimously to direct staff to proceed with the $4.5 million purchase, funded by Recreation Impact Fees. Closing expected around October 9th.

* A public safety tax is heading to the November ballot. Council voted 6-1 (Crist opposed) to refer a 50/50 split of sales and property tax increases to voters for 10 years to fund public safety staffing needs.

* Ranked choice voting is also heading to the November ballot. Council voted 6-1 (Crist opposed) to refer a ballot question on ranked choice voting. First Reading August 11, Second Reading August 25. If it makes it to the ballot and voters approve, it would take effect starting with the 2029 elections.
