BYU saw the pathetic trend of student sections resorting to cheap, bigoted religious slurs instead of actual football trash talk officially reach Fort Collins, proving once again that a subset of opposing fans can’t handle playing a disciplined, physical Big 12 program without completely losing their minds.

During Saturday night’s matchup at Canvas Stadium, segments of the Colorado State student section chose to embarrass their institution by airing tired, vulgar anti-Mormon chants directed at BYU. It’s a tired script we’ve seen echoed across other hostile outposts—complete with half-baked administrative apologies issued by the fourth quarter once the damage is already done and the scoreboard is completely out of reach.

Let’s be crystal clear about what this actually is: it’s lazy, low-brow desperation. When opposing fanbases realize their team is completely outmatched on the gridiron by Kalani Sitake’s squad, they drop any pretense of sportsmanship and lean into institutionalized prejudice. They can scream whatever classless chants they want from the bleachers, but it doesn't change the final math on the field.

While the students in Fort Collins spent their evening shouting bigotry, BYU’s roster did what they always do—used the noise as fuel, dominated the line of scrimmage, and physically dismantled the Rams en route to a statement 41-23 victory. If opposing fanbases spent half as much time supporting their own programs as they do obsessing over religious demographics, maybe they wouldn't spend the second half of games watching the Cougars salt away another decisive win in dead silence.
