Episode Description

In this podcast, I interview a good friend, Nate Pequette, who has thought deeply about love and the role of reciprocity. He reflects on ways that he has loved well and poorly and what he has learned about the importance of asking that others love back.

Nate mentions the book “Paul and the Gift” by John M. G. Barclay. There is a shorter, popularized version of similar material called “Paul & the Power of Grace” by Barclay as well.

Among other things, Nate talks about:

* The difference in loving for self-interest vs. loving because you know yourself beloved

* the challenges of being an Enneagram two who takes pride in helping others

* Ways of developing a sense of belovedness

* Things he has learned from kids with disabilities

* The importance of getting “into your body” to love others

If you’re interested in intentional communities, The Nurturing Communities Network is putting on a conference in Kentucky, October 11-14. I went two years ago, and found it super encouraging and helpful. I’ll be there again this year and would love to see you there.
