Most management tasks shouldn't take six months. Yet many companies let them drag on.

Break each day into three lists:

 

1. Tasks that bring in new business (raise revenue or cut costs).
2. Tasks to maintain or keep operations running.
3. Tasks others expect, but that don't add value.

 

Never start list 2 until list 1 is done. Never start list 3 until list 2 is done.

Aim to complete list 1 before noon, when your mind is most alert.
