Since the early pastoral expansions of colonial Australia, the native bandicoot has attracted the ire of farmers and gardeners, blamed for digging up crops, ruining lawns, and even spreading disease. A new research paper traces 150 years of animosity to the bandicoot via old newspaper clippings. It tells the story of a maligned and misunderstood creature, once abundant but now threatened.
