Naomi – Lost husband and sons, displaced

David – hunted by Saul, betrayal, and loss of family and friends, lament in the Psalms

Mary, mother of Jesus – Witnessed her son’s crucifixion

Paul – Beaten, imprisoned, shipwrecked

Jesus – Rejected, abandoned, tortured, crucified
