Francois-Marie Perrot (1644-1691) was appointed governor of Montreal by a royal commission in 1670 until 1684. He married Intendant Jean Talon’s niece and through his influence obtained the appointment as governor from the Saint-Sulpice seigneurs of Montreal island, succeeding Paul de Chomedey de Maisonneuve. In 1672, he was granted the island that now bears his name (Île Perrot to the west of Montreal Island) as a seignory. Later, Perrot was the governor of Acadia from 1684-87.
