Then psychologist Dr. Kirk Heilbrun took the stand and revealed that Clancy told evaluators she said “go with God” to each of her children while killing them, believing she and the children would ultimately be together in heaven. Moments later, testimony about Catholic teaching and suicide as a “mortal sin” prompted Judge William Sullivan to stop the proceedings and sharply admonish the prosecution after he had previously barred similar testimony. The defense sought a mistrial, but the judge denied the request.
