It’s the biggest integrated transport undertaking in the world. So it follows that running it and being accountable for its day-to day operation, is one of the biggest jobs in world transport.
For Andy Lord, Commissioner of Transport for London (and Commissioner means Group CEO), it’s clearly a privilege and a job he relishes despite all the challenges it throws up. From the world famous and iconic London Underground, the much-loved red buses, the DLR, the Overground, the Trams, even the cable car plus the hundreds of kms of cycling superhighways, the job is as varied as the transport modes for which he is ultimately responsible.
In this wide-ranging interview, we talk to Andy about his background in aviation, his love of all things London Transport and some of the tricky decisions he must take on a regular basis. Plus, we look to the future and speculate a little on what changes may be on the horizon.
