Episode Description
Going There with Dr. Mike is back with a brand new season of the biggest names in music having impactful, honest conversations about mental health. This season on Going There, look forward to guests including The Warning, Paris Paloma, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels, Marino, Matt Hansen, and more.
Kicking off Going There Season 7, Stranger Things star and indie rock artist Finn Wolfhard joins host Dr. Mike Friedman for a candid conversation about the complexities of struggling with anxiety on the public stage. Wolfhard unpacks his own existential dread and explains how high self-standards and a history of panic attacks allowed him to establish anxiety as a default for himself. But rather than hiding from it, Wolfhard learned to view his anxiety as an opportunity to learn about his own emotions. Through perseverance and bravery -- which Wolfhard defines as "doing something that scares the s*** out of you and walking away from it" -- he's now developed gratitude for his anxiety and all the lessons it's allowed him to learn about himself.
Together, Wolfhard and Dr. Mike explore how creative and artistic pursuits can create a sense of purpose and direction that acts as a stabilizing force against feelings of dread and overwhelm. They also discuss how music -- particularly indie rock for Wolfhard -- can be a grounding force, whether you're listening to it or performing it.
