The Funniest Guy in the Room Was the One Having Panic Attacks

At ten years old, Dan Regan jumped onstage at his grandfather's honorary dinner, grabbed the mic during the band's break and started performing Joan Rivers jokes he'd memorized off his uncle's comedy album.  Nobody asked him to.  He just did it, and a comedian was born.

Born in Trenton in 1971 and raised in Hamilton, New Jersey, Dan Regan, also known as Dan Regan Comedy, is the GenX comedian behind the viral "Hey GenX" videos and the Everclear reactions that blew up on social media.  But this conversation goes far beyond the punchlines.

Dan opens up about being raised by his grandparents from age one, the mullet and GenX fashion, trading athletics for the high school stage and the loss of his grandparents who shaped him.  He also gets remarkably honest about the part of his story he could easily leave out: his first full-blown panic attack the day after Thanksgiving 1995, living with panic disorder through divorce and job losses and the importance of using his platform to talk about men's mental health.

Dan also shares about winning the Laffy Taffy dad joke contest, landing on America's Funniest People and winning the prize for funniest video, the craft of joke writing, comedy influences, his dog Mocha and GenX movies and music.  Most importantly though, Dan offers a glimpse into his incredible marriage with his beautiful wife, or as he calls her, his “rock”.
