Along the canals and riverbanks of rural Egypt, the old fishermen follow one rule: if a voice calls your name from the water after sunset, you do not answer. They call her El-Naddaha — The Caller. A beautiful woman in white, standing among the reeds, who whispers the name only your mother used, the name nobody else should know. And once she learns it, she never stops calling. This week on Freaky Folklore, we travel into the Nile Delta to explore one of Egypt's most unsettling legends — a spirit who doesn't chase, doesn't stalk, and doesn't break down doors. She simply waits, and lets you walk willingly toward your own destruction. Then we descend into a story set in 1968, where a fisherman named Hassan pulls a drowned girl from the river and discovers that some things should stay buried beneath the water — and that grief itself can be a doorway.

What makes El-Naddaha so terrifying isn't the fear of drowning. It's the fear of being called by something that knows exactly who you are, knows your grief, and knows precisely which wound to press.

Some things chase you. Some things hunt you. But the truly dangerous ones? They simply call your name… and wait for you to come to them.
