We base our decisions on assumptions, values, presuppositions, what Francis A. Schaeffer used to call "pre-theoretical commitments." These guiding values can come from a wide range of sources but at bottom, they are religious because we are religious creatures, even those who identify as no-religion. So, what guides your decisions? A Christian is enjoined to align his or her life and practices, including decisions or positions, on the revealed Word of God, principles taught in the Bible. No one does this perfectly, but it's interesting to watch, and to examine oneself, people say they are believers yet make decisions that do not align with Scripture. We all do this.
