PODCAST: Talking Netflix’s ‘Unknown Number’ Documentary & Why That Twist Is So Epic (And Sad)

September 15

Episode Description

The Contending’s Megan McLachlan is joined by Tarcia Smith Bush of Grits & Gab to discuss the twisted Netflix documentary Unknown Number: The High School Catfish.

Everyone has been bullied in high school at some point. (And if you haven’t, you’re probably the bully!)

But Netflix’s new documentary Unknown Number: The High School Catfish takes harassment to a whole new level.

Back in 2020, Michigan junior high golden couple Owen and Lauryn start receiving threatening text messages to break up and that one is cheating. And then the messages abruptly stop. Then months later, they start up again, and don’t let up for over a year, but this time, they’re even more personal, ranging from body shaming to encouraging self-harm.

And you’ll never guess who the bully is…

We’re excited to have Tarcia Smith Bush from Grits & Gab return to The Contending at The Water Cooler podcast to discuss Skye Borgman’s explosive new documentary and why people can’t stop talking about it. Spoilers ahead!
