Episode Description

The final podcast examines the findings from a recent large scale trial (the EFFECT study) involving 93,000 patients, on 44 ICUs. The effectiveness of octenidine containing wash mitts was compared to placebo washcloths. The results demonstrated that antiseptic bathing with octenidine prevents intensive care unit (ICU)‐acquired primary bacteraemia (risk reduction of 17%). The doctors discuss the implications of these findings for practical IP measures on ICU; and also consider some of the overall benefits of water-free patient bathing.
